Default Is my lawnmower broken

I've had my Craftsman self propelled lawnmower for 3 years now. It's always worked well up until last week when I hit a rock that was protruding out of the ground and it caused the mower to stop. So I started it back up and it was running really rough with a lot of vibration. I finished mowing the lawn and put it in the shed. A few days ago I got it out and started mowing and it was running even rougher. I mowed for about 10 minutes and then there was a loud pop/bang and quite the smoke show. There was also a lot of oil leaking down on both sides of the engine. Once it cooled off I had a look at it and the gas tank and carb were completely separated from all the vibrations and the place where they bolt to the engine were completely sheared off. Is it worth getting it checked out to see if it's repairable?

No, it's done... The rock likely bent the blade and or crankshaft and the self destruction began.

Next time stop and change the blade asap.

It sounds just fine, I don't see any issues from here. Keep mowing, preferably in flip-flops.

It's your misfortune but I LOL'ed at the description.

Yeah, you pooped yourself by not checking the blade PDQ. The rest of it sounds like a train wreck.

As with any bladed engine (mower, plane, heli, etc), an out of balance blade is going to cause a whole host of problems.

Sounds like its toast, but you can always get an estimate at a small engine shop if you want.

Hahaha, usually when a powerful piece of machinery starts making louder noises I just ignore it and crank up my IPOD too!

I feel slightly better about mowing the fuel cap into about 20 pieces, after forgetting to put it back on, now.

If only someone on CP could help him mow his lawn.......needs to be done at least 3 times a week.

Seems that way. But my timeline is 'slightly' off. It was a few days ago that it blew up but a week before that when I was mowing and hit the rock.

But sure if anyone wants to help out and spare me the two hours of walking behind the mower I would appreciate it.

Everyone has done something like that. I sucked up a knob for the handle. It still works, just a little sharper then before.

Flip-flops don't sound safe. Barefoot would be better. No pesky footwear that could get caught in the mower then!

This is all great advice Maybe I could get someone to flip it on its side when it's running so I can have a look at the blade to see if it's turning properly.

On a side note, I went to get another one at lunch today.

In a situation like this, I always ask myself...what would Joe Sackic do?
