In completely unrelated news, I just "acquired" a 3GS that may be pre-personalized for you. How much would you want to buy it back for?

MobileMe is your friend.
...or, at least it would be if you paid it $100/year.

Haha. Somehow, I got my phone back... there are apparently some good people left in this world. Someone had it for an hour or two, however... so I'm in the process of changing a crapload of passwords right now. Bunch of people have been saying MobileMe... I'm signing up for the 60 day trial right now. This was too scary not to have it.
Even worse, Telus is doing computer upgrades or something so they can't get to billing information until 16:00 tomorrow. So someone would have had 20 hours to do whatever they wanted until Telus could suspend it.

Lucky. Stolen phones are usually never seen again.
I'm still waiting on my 3GS. Hurry the hell up, Rogers. =P

I hear that. Congrats on getting it back, but (to me anyway) just the ability to remotely track/message/lock/wipe the device is worth the $100. All the other stuff (like Exchange-esque mail/contacts/calendar/bookmarks sync) is just gravy.
Phones can be replaced. The privacy of my personal affairs can not.

$100 for a year of MobileMe isn't all that bad when you think about it. iPhones are the most often stolen phone, aren't they?

Love MobileMe ... syncing is dead easy with no work-arounds needed and the find my phone feature is worth the $100 alone imo. Especially if your spouse has an iphone too and you don't know where they are you can jump in and make sure everything is ok.

Best Buy opened here today but they didn't get any iPhones. I was there for an hour or so... people came in asking for the Telus iPhone and the guy would show them the Desire and people were shocked at how much better it was than the iPhone, and only $80 to boot.

How is the Desire better? Aside from price?

I found one the other day, did the right thing and returned it to the owner though. Guy didn't even have the basic password on it.

That was the sentiment, I'm not necessarily saying that is the case. I'm an iPhone owner, for what it's worth. What I think was happening was, a case of judging a book by its cover. Not to say the Desire is a bad device under the surface because that is most definitely not the case, but HTC Sense at first glance and just swiping through customizable homescreens... a lot more appealing than the boring UI of iOS. Jailbreaking my 3GS has fixed most of its faults, but widgets would make the iPhone undoubtedly the best phone out there. Anyone that buys an iPhone now is stuck with 4.02 and cannot jailbreak for the time being... have fun with the paperweight that is a factory iPhone.

Played with a desire today. Very nice but I'd never give up my iPhone for it. Still had the slight touch delay that I noticed with the nexus one. Not nearly as bad, but it was noticeable to me.

I've been searching for a week and have tried out the iPhone 4 at the Apple store in Market Mall and the HTC Desire that my buddy just bought but have no experience with smart phones of any kind to draw from. I also compared them on the future shop website and they seem very close as far as spec's go. Can anyone provide me with some insight as to which one is superior to the other?
I'm leaning towards an iPhone 4 but read in a few reviews that the antennae problem is a big one and the screen scratches very easily. Is this as big a concern as some make it out to be?

No
The 3GS had a return rate of 6%. Apple reports a 1.7% return rate on the iPhone 4. If people were dropping calls like mad on this phone, they'd take it back. There are too many good smartphones out there.

I wouldn't decide on the phone based on the antennae issue or the screen scratching. Anybody I know that has an iPhone 4 says they haven't noticed the antennae problem at all, and I've had iPhones for 2 years and haven't had a single scratch. I don't use a screen protector, I'm just careful not to put it in the same pocket as loose change or my keys.
Best bet I'd say would be to go find a Desire in a store to play with and see if you notice anything that puts it above and beyond the iPhone for you.

Haven't had any reception problems with mine and my screen isn't scratched and I dont use a protector, and I think you have seen how I treat things...

I have a scratch on my iPhone 4 screen already, and my 3G's screen is still almost perfect after 2 years without a screen protector, and I take care not to carry the phone in the same pocket as keys or change, so seems the screen is more easily scratchable on the 4, I'll be getting a screen protector.

I tried them both out briefly but only really noticed that the iPhone is a whole lot easier to navigate. I think I'd have to actually use the phone to determine a winner. In terms of what I'd use my phone for the most it would be:
1. Call/texting
2. Camera (site visits for work)
3. Music
4. Everything else (games, apps, movies, etc.)
