I'm starting to make a list as I get older when it comes to particular actors playing and the roles they have in movies:
Michael Cera plays Michael Cera
Leo DiCaprio plays Leo DiCaprio
Christopher Walken plays Christopher Walken
Jet Li plays Jet Li
I could go on but I'm sure you get the idea!!
Dicaprio in Shutter Island a lot different than in Inception, which was a lot different than in the Departed, which was a lot different than in Catch me if you can
so I don't see how he belongs on that list, the others I agree with for the most part
and I would add, Al Pacino as Al Pacino from scene of a woman ever since he made that movie all he does is yell

If every actor on the planet had the range of a Brad Pitt or Anthony Hopkins, we wouldn't really notice them anymore.
Not every single movie ever created needs to be an epic generational blockbuster. Sometimes movies are allowed to just be simply... fun. It is entertainment, afterall.

I read all six graphic novels last month, and I found it charming and well written. There's a lot beneath the surface of the "nerdy references" and video game and comic book culture. It's a pretty modern take on the coming of age story.
However, I haven't seen the movie and I do know it deviates quite a bit after the 3rd book. And I think because they managed to squish six books worth of material into such a short amount of time, it probably didn't do it justice and made it seem like a typical Cera film. Either way, Edgar Wright is brilliant and I am going to give it a shot, but I expect it to be nowhere near as good as the source material.

Watched it today, it was fantastic and followed the comic books pretty closely for the first 1/3rd or so. It starts deviating and starts rushing, and although still a pretty good flick, it just felt less polished than the start of the film.
I'd still recommend it though as it's pretty funny and a lot of fun, especially if you've got some old school video game geek in you.
Saw it last night. This was more of an Edgar Wright film than it was a Michael Cera movie, though he was pretty good in it. It was funny and had some pretty unique fight scenes. Basically it's what if dating was like a videogame...and there were tons of videogame references. I'm a big fan of the books and I liked the movie better. Refreshing to see so much Canadian content on screen as well.
Also the videogame came out and that's fun too. Kinda like a homage to river city ransom with 4 player coop. Probably not as fun single player though and it has no online mode.

Er..... huh? Are you seriously equating Brad Pitt with Sir Anthony Hopkins?
If this were hockey, we'd say that Pitt couldn't carry Hopkins' jockstrap. Since it's acting, that sounds a bit weird. Let's say that Pitt isn't talented enough to be Hopkins' personal assistant, let alone an actor mentioned in the same breath as having "range."
