Nice to see that Rzepczynski has rediscovered his out pitch.

Ignoring potential and only looking at this season, Morrow is around 25th in WAR (which I consider the best single stat for worth) along with other mediocre pitchers such as David Price and Matt Cain.

For me Morrow is having a good breakout season. I want to see him pitch at this high level with more consistency. He has had some rough patches this year. ERA isn't everything but he has had 3 months this season with ERAs over 5 and one month where it was over 6. He has great stuff and the potential to be very good but he has to start showing it on a more consistent basis.

So cool to see the Jays player yukking it up in the dugout and having a good time.
It's been a really fun season.

its great that you think that it is the best single stat but every stat has its flaws and excuse me if I don't love a stat that tries to tell me that he is having anywhere close to, let alone better, season than Chris Carpenter.

The fact is that this season he has had some really bad games and hasn't been consistent like the good pitchers in the majors are.

He certainly has good stuff but until he can learn to consistently control it and avoid the terrible games he will be mediocre.

I don't really concern myself with enlightening anyone here as I realize most are drinking the Jays kool-aid so much they don't care to see what actually is going on.

Maybe you guys are on to something about there not being as much runs scored with Molina catching or is it just coincidence? I really don't know.

Coincidence he was the catcher a few days ago when Mills gave up 4 runs in 4 innings. I doubt that Molina forgot everything for those few innings in that game.

It's always coincidence. ALWAYS.

Anyways, it's really pointless to discuss what the outcome of the Morrow/League+Chavez trade is because no trade can be judged until at least five years after it happens in a situation that involves prospects. Everyone knows this and yet we do it anyways.

It's been a really fun season.

This is a great sign the players are having fun, which hopefully leads to chemistry.

With Morrow, he was abysmal at times in April and May with a few good innings and outings during that time.

However, it does take time to figure things out, especially when you're working with a new staff and haven't been consistently a starter.

Right around June, he started having a lot fewer bad outings and a lot more good ones, and has been relatively consistent ever since. His era has dropped from like 6.5 at it's worst down to under 4.5. It's extremely difficult to lower your ERA by 2 runs when your era is that high over 2 months of the 6 month season.

It would like having a batter hit .175 for the first 200 at bats and then by the time he gets 500 at bats is hitting .250. Not a great average over the course, but to get it to that point, you have to be putting up some great numbers after that.

LOL, and that was the game that JPA scored two HRs in his debut.

What a gem moon.

I guess being so high up on the mountain is just good for the occasional drive-by from you.

I'll admit I'm not as high on a guy like Brandon Morrow as some others on the board are, but the Jays team as a whole do have some positives to build around - especially for the pitching staff.

Our top 3 (Romero, Marcum and Cecil) all have sub-3 ERAs in the AL East and are under control for the next couple years. We've got at least one other significantly high ceiling pitcher coming (Drabek) and what I consider to be a real wild card (Morrow) and maybe (not holding my breath) a surprise in McGowan.

For the hitters, a guy like Wells *finally* giving us some hope that he isn't going to be a complete dead weight for the rest of his contract is very positive. While we will never get the full value JP signed him for, at least it doesn't look like the complete failure it was going to be. That would have crippled this franchise significantly.

Snider is a real plus and looks to have a strong 2nd half + next season.

Bautista has been a really nice surprise and someone for the fans to come out and watch. Not sure if he is going to stick around or what his final career potential is, but he has been something special to watch this year.

The team isn't perfect, but it is outperforming expectations here by a significant amount.

So what is "really going on here", moon?

According to this link, the jays have signed romero to a 5yr $30.1M contract extension.

I won't comment on this until moon states unequivocally what the right answer is.

For those that didn't read the link, "not anywhere close to" has exactly one player ranked between their respective scores.

At a glance, Morrow has better strikeout and home run numbers, which are (and should be) valued greatly regarding the "wins added" from a pitcher.

Why would you buy his arbitration years at such a high rate if he was under team control anyway? Did they purchase a couple years of free agency too?
