When the ESPN Magazine pre-season predictions issue came out, it contained an article where 100 simulations of the season were run, and the highest win total the Jays had was 82. Even if they limp to 'just' that total, I have to say as a lifelong Jays fan, this season will have been an unqualified success.

I wonder in how many of those simulations that Jose Bautista ended up leading the majors in home runs!

Yeah, dare I say 20 years from now some historian is going to be looking through old stats and wonder, who the hell was this Bautista guy who hit 48 home runs in 2010, in a year where no one else hit 40.
I remember commenting to my co-worker how you have to love Baseball where a medicore utility backup guy gets awarded 2.4 million in arbitration. That guy has been one of the best values in all of Baseball this year.

Cito is the one who worked with Bautista on his swing so he deserves a lot of credit for his new found success. Pretty much revamped his whole swinging technique so he is ready to swing a lot quicker.

Should the Blue Jays have traded him?
Im pretty sure I asked this around the deadline also.
Do you think he will repeat or come close to similar numbers next year?
Is he in the long term plans for the Blue Jays?
It would of been interesting to see what kind of market there would of been for him at the trade deadline.

No, they shouldn't have and I'm glad they didn't. It's nice to still have something to cheer for. A rebuild doesn't need to be scorched earth.

AA was in a difficult position because of how well Bautista has played. I do think he shopped him hard but ultimately wasn't going to settle for anything less than what he wanted. Based on what he was asking for some of his other players, I am not surprised that no one would step up to the plate.

The Jays signed LHP Zack Adams, who was drafted in the 15th round. He actually should've been taken in the 8th, but was looking for around 250K which is over slot for the 8th round. The jays decided to give him the money he was looking for.

Some pro M's blog discussing the Morrow for League + trade. They have the gall to think that Chavez will make it a win for the mariners. LOL...
The jays get a potential Ace who is leading the league in Ks/9 ip and who pitched one of the most brilliant games by a SP in a long time and that's with all these no no's and perfecto's this year.
What do y'all think?
I think that whenever you can get an Ace who is cost controllable for 3+ years for an inconsistent Reliever and a guy who had to repeat low A, you win hands down in the future and the present department.

Morrow is a longs way from being an ace. Even with the greatest game ever pitched he has a 4+ ERA and struggles with control.
He is 26 years old and still has figured out where the strike zone is in the majors.
I think it is a good deal for the jays but considering that it didn't look like he was going to work out for the Mariners not a big loss for them.
I doubt that Chavez will make it a win for the Mariners but it certainly isn`t a hands down win for the Jays just because they got a mediocre pitcher that can have a great game every now and again.

How is Morrow a mediocre pitcher? Sportsnet say all of the time that Morrow has the best stuff out of all of the pitchers and he has the potential to be "ace" of the staff. As for Chavez its way to early to understand what this player is going to turn out as.
So who knows who made the best trade but from the Jays side they acquired a really good starting pitcher which is always a plus.

I predict big things from him, so obviously I am overrating him a tad. However, his first two transition months notwithstanding, he has been dominant at times consistently more so the last two and a half. He has a higher ceiling, a better pedigree and better current big league value than either of the two players toronto dispensed.
I got ahead of my self, big surprise, but I still think that he is our best pitcher based on pure stuff and his k's/9 is tops in the league, while having pitched more than any other time before and only looking stronger. He's a stud and probably emerges as our ace next year if not by the end of this year.

Yup, his stuff rivals Romero's as the best on the rotation.

Wells, EE and Tallet all clear waivers. I believe Overbay cleared a few days ago as well.

Hopefully Tallet, EE, and Overbay get traded before Aug. 31. Anything back for any of them would be great.

He is a mediocre pitcher because he has too many poor outings mixed in with his great outings. he may have the stuff to be a better pitcher than he is but until he can translate that stuff into results he will remain a mediocre pitcher.
Perhaps on this site I may be the only one to say that but guys with 4.45 ERA`s and trouble consistently getting guys out are mediocre pitchers.
he has the raw talent to be better than that but at this point that is what he is.

I think it was a solid deal for the jays, just didn`t agree with the hands down win statement and also think that it wasn`t a bad deal for the Mariners as well as Morrow was not working there for them.
