Project Management/Team Coordination Software
Hi all, any ideas on some sort of online program where a business team of 4-8 people can coordinate schedules, documents, etc? Mostly we're trying to organize multiple employees, multiple projects, multiple sub-projects, without using something dumb like a big excel spreadsheet.
It doesn't have to be free... would be nice if it was though. Does Google do something like this?
Thanks!

I don't have much experience with the product, but I think Basecamp might be what you're looking for: http://basecamphq.com/

I just use Google Apps and Excel. Then again, my organization only has 12 people in it.

Microsoft has their online version of Office too.

Doesn't MS Project 2010 have all that? You might have to couple it with SharePoint though.

I’m evaluating this right now for a client, and for small teams, I think it would be, if not perfect, a very good start.

IMO Microsoft Project would be overkill for 4-8 people.

You run it as a server? Use Sharepoint?
You'd have to do that to make it easier for multiple users. The online project software makes it easier to do that.

Ohhh... Yeah, I see what you mean there. You're talking in conjunction with SharePoint. I haven't really played with that kind of setup before, so I'm not sure of the scope it's meant for. You're probably right in suggesting it's overkill.
Project on it it's own is quite nice for managing any size of project though.

Oh, on its own its probably great, especially if you don't want to constantly pay monthly fees, or be subject to the restrictions of the online solutions.
But for ease of deployment with multiple users, but not hundreds or anything big like that, IMO it would be overkill.

If you run exchange, you could probably set up a user and just share the calendar

We have been using Basecamp for a while and it's great as long as you just need something simple. Calendars, milestones, to-do's, and email reminders are all present. Unfortunately, it doesn't go too far beyond that. There aren't any real project tracking and timeline planning tools like GANT charts, etc.
Project is really cool, but if anyone in your office isn't comfortable with it, it can turn into a nightmare.

To bump this thread.
Microsoft Project seems a bit excessive for me. I just need a simple project manager to keep track of certain projects. Would Microsoft Outlook work? We already run an Exchange Server.
Reason I want to use Outlook is because I need something that I can take mobile.
