Not Cup related, but the England/Hungary Friendly:
England down 1-0 on some AWFUL defending, but, to be fair, it seems like the ball was hooked off the line, but this time the assistant referee (French, har har) called the ball over the line and the referee gave it.
The commentators cant stop laughing/crying, its really something to listen to. More England self-pity and misfortune.

Rooney is a classic case of someone who saves their best for whoever pays them the most. Might as well save a roster spot and stop picking him for England.

and its nice that Fabio is giving the kids a run out here, and is using the 4-2-3-1
please dont switch back to a 4-4-2 next month in qualifying
Rooney up top
Gerrard as the central attacking midfielder, and any two of Adam Johnson, Joe Cole, Lennon, Walcott, Ashley Young, Milner in the attacking winger positions please

Zamora has had 2 really great chances, one just over the top and another eliciting a top shelf save.

I think we'll have enough next month for at least an International thread; Canada starts playing soon as well.

In my opinion, it has to be something else. A classic case would include a player not answering the call because of scheduling conflicts and Rooney has shown that he wants to play for his country. Not to knock Fabio but I don't think he is the kind of manager that Rooney needs. Clearly something is holding him back and with the National team he doesn't have a SAF to guide him through the tough times. Also, with guys like Cashley he doesn't have the most supportive team mates to provide what the gaffer can't. It's actually sad in a way.

If anything Steven Gerrard is the classic case. It would take at least two hands to count the number of times he's withdrawn from a friendly due to "injury", only to show up perfectly fit 3 days later for Liverpool. He deserves to be on the England roster, as a substitute...That is, when he's fit.

Bull.
Gerrard's had tons of nagging injuries throughout his career, look at the last two seasons for more proof, he'll miss a Europa game and play a League game a few days later. It happens if the injuries are small or if you're just playing too many damn games.
Either way, this whole sports business is a 'what have you done for me lately' enterprise. Face it, Rooney has been sandbagging it for England, you can tell because he mouthed off the fans in South Africa and then yesterday when he gets subbed off:
Quote:
Rooney was substituted in between Hungary's opening goal and Steven Gerrard's equaliser and with the Wembley crowd frustrated with a 1-0 scoreline in favour of the visitors, the striker was withdrawn to a mixture of boos and applause. He appeared to clap sarcastically to the crowd and then went straight down the tunnel.

Class act that Rooney. Maybe hes spent too much time with Cristiano.

I think that shows that he does care and is taking things rather personally. It's not lack of passion but rather a lack of class, which is why he handles his passion poorly.

So Gerrard can't play through small, nagging injuries...Well that just validates what everyone thinks about his character.
