Little more info on the sale. I can tell you boys that I am watching this with baited breath, and at the moment I'm hoping China buys Liverpool....

Soccernet has had it confirmed from sources close to the Liverpool takeover bid that Kenny Huang is backed by the China Investment Corporation (CIC), an investment arm of the Chinese Government which owns a stake in Canary Wharf.

According to reports in several of Thursday morning's newspapers, the rival offer from Syrian Yahya Kirdi will not be successful.

CIC, which invests China's cash reserves in foreign countries, is only willing to repay to debt to Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays Capital, leaving the North American duo with no return on their investment. But they are believed to be at the top of Broughton's list of interested parties.

CIC is said to have assets of £209 billion, which would allay fears over the funding of the deal. The Times claims manager Roy Hodgson will be given £150 million to spend.

For a comparison, thats about what City's spent in the last 2 seasons.

Where his tale differs from those of other misguided signings, however, is in the money and its consequences. Robinho was priced at £32.4 million when City signed him and is paid £160,000 a week; it makes his plight different to those of lesser players. Santos cannot afford him - it has become apparent during his loan spell in his homeland - and nor, by extension, can any other South American club. Indeed, very few can.

If City are unlikely to buy quite as badly again, it is an issue of increasing significance. With each signing, another player loses his place in the pecking order. And if he is a footballer bought, or given a new contract, since Sheikh Mansour's takeover, the chances are he is disproportionately well rewarded.

Take Wayne Bridge (an offer that may soon be made to rival clubs). When he joined from Chelsea in January 2009, the Englishman was reportedly the best-paid full-back in the world. Not that, when most deserving candidates included Maicon, Dani Alves and Philipp Lahm, he could ever be called the planet's best full-back. And now, after the arrival of Aleksandar Kolarov, he is probably not City's first-choice left-back; indeed, factor in Jerome Boateng's World Cup performances there for Germany, he may only be the third in line.

The thing is, you make calculated purchases, bring up the stature of the club and then you work on major signings. City is using an old United trick of just buying players so that other teams cant have them, they get paid a fortune and they just sit around.

I wouldnt want that to happend to Liverpool, and I have little fear that it would, but if you want to be a Big 4 Club, you have to have some serious depth and its something that Liverpool have been lacking for quite some time.

That number there though was just a comparison. For any team to have those kinds of funds at their disposal is unbelievable. You could take a team that is hemhorraging red ink like Barca and make a run at Messi or something just for an example. Not saying that they would or should, but the opportunity is there. It'd be nice to see teams like Real and Barca get the treatment they've been exhibiting on other clubs in return.

			Great story Nuje.

I've only been to one liverpool game, the 2006 FA cup final in Cardiff. The year before, my sister and I were in a small pub in Germany watching the CL miracle and the bar was packed full of liverpool supporters, we vowed we'd get to a liverpool game the next season.

our parents wanted to go to europe and they decided to go may. we were pretty disappointed that the season would be over by then, but then as the reds progressed further and further in the FA cup, we held out hope they'd make the final and were over the moon when they did. We flew into london and got to cardiff the day before the game. I couldn't believe the atmosphere in the whole city. singing dancing the night away. such a great party and nothing i had ever seen. the next day we were up early to get going on the party and it didnt disappoint. i was amazed by all the banners and scarfs and red that was all over that day, the best being a group of probably 50 people walking up the street, singing the rafa song (to labamba) while carrying a HUGE picture of him, much like you would see for a president or dictator in some countries. unreal

so we get inside and get to our seats that were behind the liverpool net to start the game and it was insane the you'll never walk alone that was sung before had me on the verge of tears. it was just so unbelieveable and surreal.

as for the actual game, well, i definitely chose the right game to attend for my first game!! When west ham went up 2, and the fans were still cheering and singing, it made me think about if that was to happen in hockey, most time the flames are down 2 fans write them off, when Cisse scored the beauty first and Gerrard hammered in the second i thought we were going to win and couldn't wait for the party. when westham scored to go up 3-2 i was so distraught and thought it was over

then it happened, gerrards strike just into injury time is by far the best thing i have ever seen in my life. the explosion of the crowd, that was mainly liverpool supporters, is something i will never forget as long as i live. grown men around me were piling on each other dragging me into the celebration, grabbing me jumping up and down losing their minds. it didn't matter if we lost in pens to me, this was it. anything else would be icing on the cake. when reina made the save to win it, all hell broke loose. i honestly can't even count the amount of men that kissed me that night haha. the best night of my life bar none.

we went and did the tour of anfield 3 days after (missing the victory parade by 1 day as well that really sucked!) and it was amazing. It did leave something to be desired though as when I stood on the kop, i wondered what i would be like to stand there with thousands of others. still an amazing experience

Simply awesome! I won a DVD of that final at a club event here, so I can watch it whenever I want! Who knows, you might be spottable in it.

Locke, you know how I got my Liverpool Chel$ki ticket! Probably the best way to guarantee yourself a seat.

Oh, and go CIC!!! NO PROFIT for those wastes of skin. Any profit from a sale should go to SOS and HJC.

What I mean is that I hope Liverpool don't turn into another City, or to a lesser extent, Chelsea. Although as an Arsenal fan I'll admit there would be a bit of envy of a club that surpassed us by not following our model of developing talent, what clubs like City are doing is just absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't mind if Hodgson spent three times as much as Arsenal have this summer to bring in some quality and that knocks us out of the Top 4, but if he's spending 150 million quid every season that would bother me.

It's like hearing the couple of stories that have been told here recently. I'm mad jealous of them because I haven't really experienced such events with Charlton or Arsenal but I can respect them because they are real journeys.

Anyway, keep the stories coming and nevermind this aging bitter traditionalist.

			Some news for the day:

- Degen on Loan to Stuttgart
- Poulson almost certainly a Red by next week
- Reds play some unspellable Turkish team in the Europa League

Nothing new on the sale front though. Probably about time for that to quiet down a bit and let the work get done. I fervently wish that H&G get nothing.

I hope funds are made available if anything so fringe Liverpool supporters stop moaning about how the only reason for their lack of recent success is United and Chelsea each spending 1.5 billion per season on transfers in while Liverpool sells 100 million in players and buys no one.

Geez, its too late now, all the big players are gone already, besides, everyone knows that the reason United rock is because of their superior management...

Expected move given that Masch should be on his way soon.

Good signing, but I find the Masch fiasco to be hilarious. He was railing that he was on his way to Inter, hes going to Inter, no Inter? Maybe Barca or Real....no one has made an offer? No one?

He spends too much time suspended.

Joe Cole given a red card for a late tackle on Koscielny just before halftime.
It was nasty but not sure it intentional, although it might be a serious injury.

First time ever Joe Cole has been sent off.

wrong. it wasn't nasty, maybe a tad late, but terrible call. no way thats a red.
the guy was back right after the break and did a little hobble for a second on his walk out, then was fine. was glad to see him sent off.

the ref was completely horrible all day. should have been a free kick for torres too.

Johnson and Kuyt with great games. Ngog looked terrible in the first, but his goal redeemed himself

Oh yes, because he definitely needed to be punished for not getting injured after being the victim of a poor tackle. While the red card was harsh, Cole has to be held responsible for his actions; neither the ref nor Koscielny made the decision to make that tackle. Nonetheless, the ref wasn't spot on with either red card. If anyone deserved to have been sent off it was Gerrard.
