Yep, that's true. Again, I thought you were spending way more on clothes than you actually are so I really don't disagree with what you're saying since you posted the breakdown of what you spend.

I think I said something in this thread about the financial practicality of having a modest, good-quality wardrobe. Above I said that it's important to save for something, instead of blowing cash or borrowing cash to buy something that you can't afford.

It's really just my priorities. Outside of rent, tuition, books, girlfriend most of my leisure cash is spent saving for big ticket items like travelling or items of clothing. I have an older computer, I bought my TV with RBC Reward points. My cash flow situation is just different.

Well you could also be like my dad, and buy Costco jeans for $15 bucks, and have jeans for a decade. At the end of the day, how those clothes make you look and feel can be worth the money. I buy fancy jeans because they are great for work, last long, and make me feel a little more confident with clients. Plus I wear the crap out of them, so at the end of the day it's not that big of a deal as I don't have to buy as many other pants.

Honestly, I think he is 75% troll, 25% genuine. Of course he knows how ridiculous it sounds, but he sure gets attention.

Probably more like 50% genuine and 50% haphazard.

Here's my shoe philosophy. After wasting money on Aldo shoes and not bearing to have to live with the pretention of wearing $400 shoes I've come to this compromise:

Every year I go to Shoe Wearhouse on their 2 for $60 sale days and grab 4 pairs of Aldo quality shoes for $120. I consume them every 6-8 months worth of everyday wear, but I always have a fresh pair that goes with whatever style/color my dresswear will take me. I wear cheap shoes and I'm okay with it. I've just found a way to not waste $100 per pair.

This is a great place to buy decent silk ties for around $15.

One place I like getting relatively high quality dress shirts from is Charles Thyrwitt (http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/). It was recommending to me by a high falootin fashion designer, and it's been a great find.

They have some fancy high-end stores in Mahattan and London, but they also offer their stock online. These shirts are much higher quality than what you get at Banana Republic, Club Monaco, etc....but at a good price. They almost always have some sort of sale on, so you can get good deals.

They have great french-cuff shirts, slim-fits (if you hate the ballooning effec of most dress-shirts), and even non-irons (which are great for the single man who doesn't have a in ironing robot, err I mean wife/gf).
What's the shipping costs on those shirts?

Ha, unfortunately I don't know because I just go to the local store a few blocks away to purchase. I just use the website to check out the styles and learn about sales.

Not quite sure what they would be to Canada though....I've found that shipping stuff in the US is a lot cheaper (often free) than up north.

I bought a sweet pair of Adidas for $40 today. They were on clearance and down from $100.

I spend a lot on work boots. I also care about my appearance at the office, I make an effort to shave AT LEAST once every other week.

But what do I know, I got married in these...

If there's something that irks me more than anything its the sh**ting on people who grew up wealthy like I should be ashamed of it or something. Yes I grew up in a nice house with nice things and vacations and such. But one thing that I will always appreciate that my Dad did was that he didn't spoil us (me and my brothers), at least not nearly to the extent as some of the people I grew up around. I went to a high school where kids didn't have jobs and got beamers and Hummers for theyre 16th birthdays, would drive like a maniac, crash and not care because Daddy was going to buy a new one.

My Dad had just as much money as any of these other parents, but my first car was a '92 teal green 4 cylinder Mustang I bought with the money I made working at Calaway Park when I was 15-16 (worst job ever). Yes my Dad pays for my school but does that mean that I work less than anyone else? No. In fact my Dad makes me pay for classes if I fail (which I have yet to do). Yes I sometimes get very expensive Flames tickets when my Dad can't use them, does that make me less of a fan? No.

I shouldn't have to apologize for being fortunate enough to have wealthy parents that didn't treat me like a brat.

^ People (or I) don't care if you grew up wealthy or you are wealthy. They care if you start bragging.

Table 5 - is that supposed to be really nice clothes or something? ( http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/ ) What do you suggest on buying? I might be interested. (Might)

I think the spirit of the thread only demonizes people who grew up wealthy and recieved 300-600 thousand dollar loans from their brother and think Micheal Jackson was the best entertainer of all-time and think that Johnny Cash made no meaningful contribution to music! Therefore no apology needed nor demanded of you.
