Harding Available
The Habs are looking to move Josh Harding. He's a young goalie with starter potential and is signed on a reasonable contract at $2.1mm.
I would ideally like to get a forward/d-man in return but would definitely look at a prospect/pick.
PM is the way to go still...although if I am on MSN feel free to try. I may not respond right away.
Thanks for the Coburn offers, he has been moved.

Coburn is now a member of the Anaheim Ducks.

I won't speak for anyone else but I always appreciate a post with the details of a trade. I like to follow player movement and it also gives me a good idea of a player's market value.

I totally agree. I know that you can always look in the transactions, but it would be nice to just have a post outlining the deal.

Well unfortunately I think the days of posting about every trade are behind us. I think too many GM's are scared to get criticized for a deal so they just don't bother posting anymore.
I post almost all of my deals on the forum yet about 80% of them are criticized and I take heat for them. Everyone seems to like the deal for the other team. Go figure. Maybe I just make bad deals most of the time?

Thats because all your deals are terrible Dave, we can't help it.
I post most of my bigger deals but I don't feel the need to post a prospect for prospect swap or a 4th line scrub for a pick kind of deal.

I'd like to see trades announced on the forum. There's no reason not to do it. I enjoy the discussion about trades - even when deals I make get criticized. It also helps new GMs learn more about dealing. There will always be a difference of opinions - that's what makes it fun.
Anyhoo in this case I like the deal for the Ducks. I'm not convinced Pavalec will be a full time #1 - I think he will end up being a 1B type guy. And in the CPHL those guys are tough to have because you pay them a ton - yet they aren't always good enough to carry the mail.

I see what you are saying about Pavelec but the same can be said about Coburn. He hasn't exactly been that top guy everyone thought he was going to be so when you look at Pavelec's potential and Coburn's steady play, I think it is an even deal.
Coburn is the safe pic right now but if Pavalec plays #1 minutes this year somehow it will be a different story!
Right now I say even. Good swap.

Normally I do announce trades, the last couple days have been busy though.
Anyways, Pavelec Vs. Coburn...I needed to shed some salary and Coburn is on a Flyers defense that has 8 legitimate d-men. He hasn't proven to be the guy everyone thought, so I wanted to move him.
In return I got Pavelec who was absolutely fantastic in some games but bad in others; he was inconsistent. I think he does have #1 potential and I was willing to take the risk on him.
In other news, Josh Harding has been sent to FLA in return for Tim Erixon. Harding has that potential but I didn't need 3 goalies in the CPHL and while Erixon is a ways away, its obvious the Flames brass like him a fair bit. It sucks he got injured recently but hopefully he recovers.
Thanks to everyone who sent PM's and who I chatted with...it was fun.

I think this is an even trade, Anaheim gets the better player but Montreal gets the cap savings and more potential.

With only one good goalie in the organization, and several projects, I needed some more potential at that position.
Harding is one of the best backups in the nhl and could be a starter on some teams. Value wise, Harding has more potential value than Erixon does, so that's why I made the trade.
Erixon is a very good up and coming D-man, but I already have a bunch of D-men that are young and have potential so I'm dealing from the one area of strength that I have.
Thanks to Curtis for the very easy talks.

I too would like to see more trades posted, even if they are of the bozo-for-bozo variety. Curtis, what ever were you busy with?
That being said, I'm going to do just like Dave said and level some criticism here. Hope it doesn't stop people from posting.
I have no idea why this deal was done from the Florida POV. Harding is still stuck behind Backstrom in the NHL. To me this makes no sense on that level.
Further, while I don't really worry about getting criticism, I don't understand how it is that I get flak for signing (giving up nothing but cap room) Auld, who is rated higher than Harding is, to a 3M deal when this comes up. You could have had either Garon or Auld for significantly cheaper than Erixon, whom I think you needed a lot more than Harding.
I'm at a complete loss here. Is Harding's potential that much more exciting? I hope I don't sound like I'm just flailing my arms about in anger, because I'm not. I'm just really confused. How is trading away a first-round pick (highly thought of, and a Flames prospect to boot) for a low-rated backup reasonable, but Auld was "I just don't get it" among many GMs?

Yeah I used to be a big Harding fan until I got him last year. The Auld thing is different in my opinion, Harding does have more potential then Auld and I think age was a major factor.
I stay far away (or try to) from Flames prospects because you know its a minimum 3 years before they even get a sniff of the NHL.

Who will play more games for their NHL team this season? Auld or Harding?
Listen, the point of my argument is, for the foreseeable future, at BEST (for Harding), him and Auld are pretty equal in terms of potential for advancement in rating. At the point they are at, age, to me, doesn't really matter.
I just can't believe I had comments about how it didn't make sense to sign Auld to the deal I did (and like I said, whatever, it doesn't affect me to a deep emotional level) and I'm the only person in this thread going, "Erixon for Harding? Really?"
