He appeals to people that like The OC, Jersey Shore, The Hills etc. Basically, young stupid people.
When I was in college he was all my roommates could talk about. I was finally able to catch one of his acts on the Comedy Network. These are the same people who think Robin Williams is better on stage than with a script.
I didn't realize how utterly stupid my roommates were until I saw that. Waving his hands around like a lunatic, repeating punchlines to lame jokes....it was awful. I immediately threw in 'Complaints and Grievances' to quell my rage.

Dane Cook. Probably the worst comedian in history. His comedy appeals to the lowest form of humanity.
Pryor, Carlin and Lenny Bruce are all rolling in their graves every time Cook gets up on stage. He's an embarrassment to the profession.
I enjoyed watching him bleed out and squeal like a little girl in Mr. Brooks.

FARCICAL scenes have erupted at an Elton John concert in Monte Carlo after a 70-year-old woman started brawling with a 30-something blonde - for obstructing her view.
Elton never missed a beat. He noticed the brawl but kept on singing Tiny Dancer. It was unbelievable."

As did I. As an aside I was disappointed with he ending to that movie. Mad that the thing with the daughter turned out to be a dream sequence.
One of the most underrated movies of the last five years. I thought the scenes with Costner and Hurt were superb.
As for the final sequence, I can see why you'd be disappointed but remember, dreams can come true! Danielle Panabaker gained a fan with that scene. Loved it.

I'll throw out a pointless post defending Gaga... as annoying as she is, Lady Gaga can legit sing, but chooses to appeal to the masses instead and sings brainless stuff. She's not anywhere near the uselessness that is Kesha.
I don't listen to her music, nor do I like her.
But she is talented(SNL sitdown with piano), and her people know what they're doing.
There are some bands that you'll never "get" until you hear live. It's kind of like that with Lil Wayne. Only you won't "get" him until you've heard him in a strip club. There's really no other excuse for liking his music though.
