Advice on buying bed

Hey CP

I have never bought my own bed and mattress before, but it's probably something I should definitely do my homework about.
Do you guys have any advice on a affordable but good quality bed and mattress?
I always liked the thought of getting one of those queen size "bowling ball" beds, since I tend to move around a lot. It's also easier to get into bed at night when the girlfriend has gone to sleep before I have.

dude, Just get something that is comfortable. Screw what everyone is going to say because you just cant put a price on a good nights sleep.

Buy what is most comfortable for you. Spend some time just laying on it how you would at home. Sealy makes a good bed and they make some that are the same model but in firm or plush. Kingsdown also makes a quality bed. I just spent a few months selling furniture (including mattresses). The biggest thing I can say, again, is buy on comfort. There can be the best, most expensive bed out there but if it's not comfortable then it doesn't help you. Hope that helps a bit.

I got sucked into that. I have a Sealy memory foam top deal and she forced me to get a king sized and now we have two dogs sleeping with us. It sucks.

don't be afraid to spend $2,000 or so - you can't put a price on a good night's sleep.....

Expensive matresses (giving you a better night sleep) are as bunk as Al Gore's global warming.

Honestly try sleeping on a mattress that feels like a board. Best sleep of your life, I guarantee.

However- keep in mind that there is a lot of margin on mattress sets; especially the higher up you go. On a $2000 mattress set you should be able to get the sales guy down to $1200 if you go in mid-week. (When it is slow and sales guys are hungry.)

Try the kitchen table, it usually serves dual purposes. Easy to clean, too.

Anyway, buying a new mattress is the greatest thing in the world.

I find the type of mattress is irrelevant, sending the girlfriend home at 12 or 1 am followed by a comfy night on your own is best.

I figure you spend 1/3 of your life in your bed, so don't settle for anything less than what you think is the most comfortable thing to lay on ever.

I got a set at sleep county about 3 months ago, and it is amazing. $2400 was the price, but I gave the salesman a 'F that noise' side glance and he suddenly remembered a floor model for $1200. With a box spring the total came to $1500 and change.

I'm not looking for advice on what to buy, I'm looking for advice on where to buy.
Anyone know a good place to buy a good bed (not the mattress, the actual bed).
I want something that has drawers underneath, and the only places I can think to look (Ikea, and the Brick) don't really have anything I like, or that is of any decent quality.

So any advice on a decent store that isn't crazy expensive?

I've bought 2 mattresses from these guys so has a friend and my family and their friends. They sell Seally mattresses that have slight imperfections, like missing thread, or maybe a little bit of dirt. Mattress wise they are perfectly fine. They sell the mattresses for 25-35% of retail prices.

You and your girlfriend should just go down to the stores and try out beds until you find one you like in your pricepoint.

I also bought at Sleep Country. They don't have the cheapest prices around but have a great selection.

Do not pay retail for a mattress.

The markups are insane and the big stores will have clearances at many times of the year. Unless you pay 2/3 or less of retail you are getting ripped off.

I heard the Cecil was having a liquidation on used mattresses. Price should be quite reasonable.
