Is that legal?
I guess they've got nothing to lose though. What are you going to do, sue them?

Technically the receiver is a "new" company. Just like if I owned "Flames Pizza" it would technically be called "Ken's Company operating as Flames Pizza." Then if I sold it to you; you would keep all the signage but it would now be legally known as "Tron's company operating as Flames Pizza."
Underhanded, but legal.

This may not apply to many (if any) gift card holders. If you have the credit card receipt/statement that was used to purchase the card, you can make a claim with your credit card company for the amount.

I'm working on a plan to win the Powerball, put in a bid to buy the company out of receivership, and open Chocolaterie Calgary Puck. Anybody want a job?

Well I find BC to be some of the best chocolate I have ever tried. Only places I've found as good or better were a couple of small independent shops in Antwerp. Even Pierre Marcolini which is supposed to be the most elite in Belgium fell short of BC as far as I am concerned. Been to a couple of high end places in London and Paris and they were on par with Purdys in comparison. BC is amazing f@@king chocolate! But it's at a high price point .

Yeah, I'm not sure if Calgarians appreciate how luck they are to have (or had) it in their backyard. I've had some really great chocolate from around the world, and I think it more than stacks up.

Ok so i don't get this. So did Bernard have a really crappy realtor, or is Finnigan an idiot?
Bruce Finnigan said he and his company, B. Finnigan & Associates, will make a formal offer of $5 million for the 78 hectares of land on Highway 1 at Highway 22.
Callebaut said he bought the land in 2007 for $5 million, with plans to turn it into an organic dairy farm that would contribute to his chocolate making. He recently tried to sell the land, but could only attract offers of $2 million.

I don't really get it either. Maybe BC refused to sell the property and insisted on continuing to develop the organic dairy farm. Perhaps ATB pushed BC into receivership against his will and the receiver will now be in a position to make the sensible move and sell the property. Who knows.
I keep waiting for the court filings to appear on the Deloitte website but so far, nada: http://www.deloitte.com/view/en_CA/c...ings/index.htm

Maybe the only time Mrs Finnigan is willing to play with Mr Finnigan's tickle trunk (yup, a Mr Dress-Up reference) is when she's been fed some of Bernard's old Belgian aphrodisiac.

Well if he is willing to trade the total embarrassment and humiliation of losing control of his 27 year old empire to a bunch of vultures for free ad space, then yes.
I worked on his website in the early 2000's and met the man, he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He made a business bet and lost, it happens. However, I will never question his character, ever.

Also puzzling too is how a $3million dollar loss on a property can send the whole company into receivership. Isnt' $3million nothing nowadays? Sarich makes that in one year.
