Awesome.

That's exactly what happens when you go out of your way to be condescending towards people and start throwing in little jabs. That's how any debate gets derailed, you should know that by now.
It got derailed because of your inability to debate in a mature manner. Now you're trying to brush it off and throw the blame on other people, and call them out for being too thin-skinned about your little insults. But the truth is it was you who who was getting riled up, which is why you started with the condescending tone and insults.

Come on, Captain. They planned this for years. Clearly they all walked here and Tom paddled over in a canoe.

Condescending or not, my point about the marketing of the message was made long ago. I don't support nor condemn Greenpeace's actions, I just think their method was ballsy and grabbed attention. And I think I've made that abundantly clear.
I officially wave the white flag. The horn of surrender has been blown. You win, you get the last word, and I apologize for hurting your feelings. I'm not going to be the keyboard warrior in this debate. I have better things to do.

You didn't hurt my feelings as I wasn't in on the debate. I was just pointing out in a general sense that anytime a poster starts insulting other posters as part of his argument, the thread will go off topic and get derailed, and that's what you did.

DA tried on the last page.
His interpretation is definitely one way to look at it, though the overall thrust is about as vague as a prediction by Nostradamus.

Presumably, it's based on the concept of the separation of Church and State, which is a relatively old concept surrounding the belief in the freedom of religion. It ensures that the state cannot dictate a citizen's religious beliefs. People of any faith are free to gather and practice their religion without fear of government interference, influence, or persecution.
Based on that, my understanding of Greenpeace's message is that they want the oil industry to be able to operate freely without any outside interference or influence from the government. Clearly, their goal is the complete elimination of all government regulations of the oil industry, and presumably, elimination of the collection of royalties from the industry.
There really is no other logical way to interpret their message, unless you assume the people who conceived of it are complete idiots.

Separate Oil & State is a US campaign to get oil money out of politics. The greatest barriers to clean energy are political, not technical—and these barriers are largely fueled by the oil industry. We know that in order to achieve a clean energy future, we have to expose and eradicate the political influence of the oil industry; we have to achieve a separation of oil & state.

I would agree to the complete withrawl of the oil lobby from politics only if the environmental lobby also agrees to withdraw completely.
I didn't think so either.

Oh boy. Politics are not a barrier to green energy sources, economics are. Unless by "barrier", they mean "unwillingness to pour a bucket of public money into subsidies".

Oil is big business with many players involved, too much money to conceive, and there is an element of environmental destruction that is associated with the oil industry. The recent BP and Enbridge failures don't help that cause either. Of course there are people are there that are going to believe that that industry is evil. And as expected, the ones who profit directly or indirectly from oil are going to be the ones who defend it. It's been the case for a very long time now.

Everyone benefits one way or another from oil and what it creates.

There's a difference between "benefits" and "profits." Those that make money from oil or allows people to put food on their table are going to defend it. Those that use oil products on a regular basis probably don't know that oil is even used to produce it.Two very different things, Transplant.

I know big oil is evil. This is proven every time gas prices go up about a nickel a litre, 3 or 4 days before a long weekend.... surprise surprise. And then mysteriously, a short time later, prices drop to the level they were at before the long weekend.
Its a conspiracy I tell ya! Satan is in charge of big oil. Down with big oil... up with little oil.

If they called it Bi Goil, I think there would be a great impact on public opinion. Because you know... no one likes Bi Goil.

That's great, but I'm talking about profiting. In specific, directly.
