Anybody scratched their screen yet? I have a few extremely minor scratches - probably incurred while camping. They aren't deep gouges, and you can only see them if the screen has been freshly cleaned, is turned off, and held up to light at an angle, but they are there.
I'm fine with it, honestly I am. I'm not willing to give up the feel of the glass compared to a screen protector, and they are invisible when the device is in use, but my precious baby has her first few signs of use.

That is one of 2 reasons I have put off getting an iPad. The first is financial priorities and the second is wear and tear. not just from me but I have 2 kids who insist my laptop belongs to them. I would hate to see what they would do with an iPad.

I noticed a deep scratch a month in. It's only 1cm long and looks like a hair on the screen. Not that much of a bother. I took it out of the case yesterday and noticed 2 more scratches. These ones are not deep at all and i really have to look at an angle to even notice them.

The scratches I’m experiencing are super fine, not something that is visible other than via obsessive compulsive cleaning and adoration of the screen
But yeah, I generally don’t let me kids use the iPad very much. I wish I had the money to afford a low end one for them - there is a huge number of good looking kid friendly apps, but I’ve seen the wear and tear a DS has to endure (through no malice of their own - kids are just naturally tough on stuff), and I don’t think the iPad would survive in good shape for very long.

I want to say my kid will never touch my iPad, but realistically that should prove impossible. Not looking forward to the day my little buddy here gets dropped on it's screen.
Hanging out with my cousins-in-law a few weeks ago it was mind-boggling how clumsy they are with their stuff. I'm not sure if it's just teenagers being mentally distracted all the time or they just don't care about their stuff, but everything (blackberry, ipod) was placed in a shallow pocket or a lap without a second thought. I witnessed probably 7-10 instances of something very expensive land on pavement. I've probably dropped my iPhone 2-3 times in 2 years (and once was on grass).

We let our 3 year old play with our iPad, but we'd make sure she was sitting down, and not walking around with it.
She loved to throw Angry Birds the wrong way for some reason.

It’s many things, but I think one big thing is that these are kids growing up with hardware that’s cheap, on a three year or less upgrade cycle, so they only have to last that long, and pervasive (ie. if they break their device, they can get another pretty easily, or borrow one of the 15-20 other devices in their social circle).
Eventually, people like us that are older and obsessed with putting things in cases and keeping them running for years will look like our grandparents, who we laughed at for wrapping their furniture in plastic.
I used to worry about scratches, where I’d find replacement battery packs in 3-5 years, proprietary cables, etc, and I still do to an extent. It’s a challenge to let go and realize that I probably won’t be using the same iPad in 5 years. Now I try to enjoy the devices more, such as not putting on a screen protector (but I still have a case - I can’t imagine taking an iPad outside the house without one). Data mobility is more important - how will I move my information forward to my next device, rather than how do I keep this device working for perpetuity.

Fish pond and the piano are my 2 and 1 year olds favourite apps. Aside from the Toy Story books of course.
No scratches yet but I've had a cover on mine from day one.

Hilarious and terrifying for the same reason.
Also, for anybody with kids Talking Tom is pretty funny. It's just a cat that mimics what you say (in a high pitched chipmunk voice). Reactions range from creepy to annoying, but everybody laughs. It's free.

I have something like that for iPhone called Smack Talk. You can change the pitch of the voice so it makes their voices deeper. At one level it makes my 2 year old sound like he should be 13 or 14. That's creepy.

If you are a disciple of Getting Things Done and are unsure if Omnifocus for the iPad is really worth $40, it is, in my opinion. I'm very happy with it so far. The new forecast view for looking at actions, and the context map are both extremely well done.

Just picked up my parents one ... my mom is super stoked. They pay for rural internet, so it's super expensive. They like the idea of paying $15/month quite a bit more.

Isn't it 30$/6GB for the iPhone and an extra 10$/month for the iPad?

I'm officially moving to plan B. Tomorrow I'm going to call Rogers and throw a temper tantrum until I get free iPad data sharing. I'll update my progress.

Are there any strong feelings pro or con the AppleCare extended warranty? I'm on the fence.

I cracked and bought one of these bad boys. Trying to find the right case at the moment. I hate how expensive the apple one is. I am not sure the Clam Case is what I want but I definitely need to protect it. Monoprice has a decent one for just over 5 bucks, the few reviews on it look good as well. This just looks more like a short term case though as it doesn't have any of the positioning functions, i.e. for typing or watching movies.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
Looks like it ends up being closer to $10 after shipping costs.
