Following this week's miscarriage of Lindsay Lohan-related justice, one can only assume the answer to be in the affirmative. As things stand, LA remains on high alert after another travesty of a judgment on a monied Caucasian who had repeatedly violated the terms of her DUI sentence. If this simmering tension spills over into mindless violence and pan-district rioting, then the blood will be on the legal system's hands. How many more, LA?
Even now, campaigners who marched with "JUSTICE FOR PARIS HILTON" placards are probably contemplating the horror of having to do it all again, and wondering for how long the entertainer liberation movement can maintain its tradition of peaceful resistance, or whether the time has come to move to armed struggle.

Thought I'd bump this thread as Lindsay Lohan was released yesterday after only spending 13 days of her 90 day sentence, in jail. What a joke.

After 13 days in jail, Lindsay Lohan was set free from the Century Regional Detention Facility at approximately 4:35 a.m. ET on Monday morning, reports Us Weekly.

The troubled starlet was originally sentenced to 90 days behind bars, but served less than 15 per cent of that due to prison overcrowding and good behaviour. She first entered the detention centre on July 20 after violating her probation in her DUI case.

So you think they should have released a violent offender earlier in order to keep her in jail longer?

No... I think that when the court sentences you to 90 days in jail, you should spend 90 days in jail.... not 13. The justice and correctional system is a joke.

I doubt that's what he meant. I would guess he meant pack them in with a shoehorn if that's what it takes for them to finish their sentence.

And I assume you support increased taxation in order to construct the mass number of prison cells that would be required for your proposal?

I doubt she went to Federal Pound-me-in-the-ass Prison. Chances are it's mostly full of the same types of non-violent delinquents....

What's really a joke is that this is the type of slap on the wrist people get with DUI's.

Actually I would be willing to pay more in taxes, in order to build a few more prisons. Releasing someone early because there is too much crowding, just isn't a good enough reason, in my opinion. I feel that the absolute minimum time that a convicted criminal should have to serve is 2/3rds of their sentence, and only then because of good behavior and because they have progressed towards their rehabilitation. This releasing someone after only serving 14.4% of their sentence is bullcrap.

It would be substantially more than "a few more prisons", think dozens of more facilities in major population centers. The US is already a world leader in incarceration rates, perhaps the solution is dealing with the social issues that lead to crime as opposed to just locking cells.

Not much different between the USA and Canada when it comes to the justice and correctional system. If nothing else, we are even more lenient.

If Lohan had been tried in Canada, she would have never seen the inside of a prison.

Or perhaps when you are sentenced to 90 days in jail, you serve 90 days in jail. Prison isn't much of a deterent when you know that the worst you'll get is a slap on the wrist and you'll be out in a fraction of the time sentenced.

Plus, its seems like a lot of prisons these days are quite comfortable. Tv's in every cell, dvd players, computers.... I wouldn't even be surprised if they have video games. I doubt Lindsay was too traumatized by her short stay.... and I would be quite surprised if she learned anything.
