Too many unknowns with the weather to grow weed outdoors here.

Well I know people certainly do it in parts of BC, like Vernon for example.

If it was legal, you could grow a plant indoors as well.

That's a joke, right?
Look at the costs involved with growing weed illegally here. You buy or rent a house, convert it for growing with large-scale electrical modifications and hydroponic equipment for about 500 square feet of actual crops. And you'll probably get busted within a year or two, in which time you pay to set up all over again. And these guys still make MASSIVE profits.
Now imagine the government set up a large field, put up a security fence around it with a few security guards and grew acres and acres of pot. They could do it infinitely cheaper than the black market. Each 500 square foot section would cost pennies compared to the costs of setting up a grow-op illegally. Even if they did it indoors, it would still be infinitely cheaper if it was done on a large scale.
Can you grow cucumbers in your basement cheaper than the big greenhouses can? Of course not.

Had an idea!

Imagine what selling that stuff would do to the economy if people had to pay high taxes on it.

If people had to pay high taxes on it, then they would just continute to buy it illegally like they always have.

I cant agree with that. People aren't buying hooch made at a buddies house because the taxes are high.
The penalty for buying illegal weed would be so high nobody would bother(as silly as that sounds)

I was a chronic for 9 years (4-5 joints a day) until a month ago when I stopped altogether, so do you mind explaining why I couldn't eat or sleep and had random cold-sweats for a week and a half on top of the feeling of being on the edge of a psychosis?
No negative health implications is hyperbole.
Although I do agree with you that legalizing it and making money is better than spending money on cops chasing it.

Sorry, I'm seriously not picking on you, its just I made it to this thread late and your posts are the ones standing out.
There very much is a dependency problem. The thing is that the real withdraw doesn't start until after a few days of going without (for chronics) so the concentration in the blood stream dips to the lowest point its been, well, ever since taking up the habit. THEN...
EDIT: Holy crap, atr. I read the whole thread and I could have quoted you a few more times at least! So I was just wondering...how much weed do you smoke and do you smoke everyday? You sound how I've been until very recently. I had no idea how insidious the stuff was until I stopped...or maybe I did and didn't want to admit it to myself.

My brother was in the same boat, actually. 4-5 joints a day, and he started developing severe anxiety and heart palpitations. He had difficulty running his day-to-day life without it at that point. Went to the doctor one night when he thought he was having a heart-attack and they told him he needed to stop with the weed. He finally did, and the anxiety attacks went away.

I was getting to that day-to-day point too. Not my day job, but doing live sound or playing my horn suddenly felt completely wrong and not fun unless I was blazed. If I had to do a gig and didn't have any I would be scanning the bar for patrons to follow out or asking the musicians for a score. I played since I was eight (I wish it sounded like it...lol...), so many more years without than with and never had the "fun" problem, so that was a big indicator for me. A run in with the police recently being the last straw. Man did it suck though, but even now just a month later I feel effing fantastic and wish I had done this years ago. Everyone in their own time I guess.

I think everyone is a little different in the way they react to withdrawals. I go to the states a lot and most times for over two weeks and I'm not stupid enough to sneak it down or ask when I'm down there (mostly Florida where 20g+ is a felony/5 years in prison) and I don't even notice it.
I mostly vaporize now (Thanks Neeper!) but back when I was 18-24 I smoked 5+ joints a day and decided one day to quit and did so for almost two years completely. I didn't have any need for the stuff after day one and didn't look back. I honestly felt like it became more of a habit of smoking the joint than an addiction or dependence on the drug itself.
If I had to or wanted to I could quit again tomorrow and honestly feel like it wouldn't be a problem again. But then in saying that I have another buddy who goes through the exact same thing you do when he quits for long periods, so it may just depend on your body.

^ Everyone is different. I think it has to do with how saturated you are when you stop.

Like most chemicals that are habitually abused, there is always a psychology withdrawal period.

I don't agree. There is already a huge production and distribution market for marijuana, it's massive. BC already exports billions of years worth of product a year.
I seriously miss some of the logic behind the 'it will be more expensive argument'. It sounds like people are saying the government will legalize it, grow it, monopolize it, tax it, and then sell low quality, high priced weed. In what economic model does that make any sense, considering the already sizeable black market? What is to prevent this (already illegal) black market from continuing to do it's thing, at the same old cost/price? What's the incentive for someone to buy weed at a vastly inflated price if they don't have to? Especially given all weed smokers are already familiar, by default, with the illegal drug dealer aspect, it's not like legality is an issue for them.

Does the government produce all the booze? Any? Roll cigarettes? I don't see why they'd want to get involved at all, it makes no sense to me. Tax it? Sure... but not to the point where it drives all sales to the black market. What's the point? If they made booze $15 a bottle at the liquor store due to tax, what do you think would happen?

This time outdoor, near drumheller. The cops says it is the size of a few football fields.

I would also like to thank Neeper for the vape idea. It has been 3 months and I havent looked back.

The plant is often referred to as 'weed' for a reason.
