Sorry to have confused you.

Apparently, your concern for your inability to untangle the mysteries of a chocolate map is greater than your empathy for the dozens of employees that are out on the street, looking for work... many of whom have been with Bernard for 20+ years.

Seriously though, $20 says Barry Callebaut buys in a big stake

FYI - Barry Callebaut is not the name of a person, but combined name of 2 companies that merged to form a larger one: Cacao Barry and Callebaut Chocolate... The resulting name is commonly confused with that of a relative (brother, faja, grandfaja etc)...

No, he does not. Bernard personally selects all ingredients and has a manufacturer in Europe (not Barry Callebaut) make bulk chocolate to his exclusive recipe... which is now owned by the bank.

When is the last time anyone bought Callabeut chocolates? Yeah, I thought so...

If the city actually gave these businesses their patronage, they would stick around.

Way, way, way over-rated and appropriately way, way, way over-priced as a result.

The consumer finally figured them out and that killed them.

I totally agree. After bringing a brick home from the Chocolate Line in Brugge, everything else tastes like a $1.99 Easter Bunny in comparison. Including Bernard Callebaut.

My gullett must be shot, because I prefer Cadbury chocolate over these high priced Belgian makers. Lindt is pretty good as well.

Expensive chocolate is one of the first things people will cut back on when they have to tighten their budget. It's a business that took it particularly hard in the recession. That, and buying a property for $5M at the height of the real estate boom in 2007 that lost more than half its value in three years didn't help.

From what i've seen on the news the chocolate had nothing to do with what is going on now. A series of poor investments did. Completely outside of the chcolate business. They can cry about the recession all they want, but if they had just sticked to what they know best (Chocolate), they likely would have been fine.

Awesome, some random Chocolate store in Belgium is better than a local place. How convenient for us all!

There's also a place in Inglewood that makes Chocolate in house. They take the beans, the butter and whatever else and make it fresh to order. They also make truffles.
I bought some truffles for my GF, and... she was happy. Really happy. Really really happy.
The place is called Chokalat. It's on the S. side of 9th ave SE.
