Default LA Kings make a pair of deals

The LA Kings would like to announce 2 trades:

The Kings sent Talbot to the Ducks for Brandon Prust and a 2nd round pick in 2012. The Kings anticipate that Prust will play in the AHL this year. This transaction provided some much needed cap space.

In the second deal, the Kings acquired veteran sniper Teemu Selanne and 2.5M for 2011 from Habs for Chuck Kobasew, and prospect Joey Hishon; the Habs also re-acquire their 2011 first round pick in this deal.

The Kings are ecstatic with this deal as they have found a top line scorer that will either play with either the Sedins or Malkin and Bergeron. Selanne also provides much needed leadership and experience.

Thanks to both GMS for the smooth talks.

Selanne was pissing me off. Will I retire, won't I retire...make up your mind Teemu! I traded for Gagne assuming he would retire, but it looks like he's sticking around for another season and I needed to shed some salary. There is a clause that if Selanne retires this year the trade is reversed, so it works for both parties.

I have Vanek who can slip into the 2nd line easily, so Kobasew will play on the 3rd line and I get a solid prospect in Joey Hishon and my 1st rounder back (which will hopefully be a late one!)

Thanks for the easy deal SweetDoc.

Bit of a strange deal - the Habs get a pile of cap space, a 1st, a 1st round prospect and a good depth player for a guy who at best is a one year solution.

Very steep price to pay.

Huh? I don't understand the LA-Montreal deal at all. Montreal wins hands down.

Weird trade, I would be worried that Selanne might retire.

I only clear $2.5mm so not a ton...and Selanne is Top 10 in SC in the game and that can be tough to find. Either way I think both sides are relatively pleased...and there's the retirement clause in there which protects both parties.

I didn't know about the retirement clause. That helps.

2.5 M isn't a pile of cap space, but it helps Mtl and no one else wanted Kobasew based on his rerate. I needed a top scorer and based on rerates, I got one, if he retires, trade is reversed no big deal.

I've tried to package Montreal's 1st and Hishon with other roster players to get a better scorer or player from other teams and I've been told by each GM that Hishon and Montreal's first rounder have no real value to them.

People might say it's a steap price but based on what other GMs are willing to give me for the same assets, I'm satisfied. Montreal got some fair assets, none that are top assets, and some cap space, exactly what he wanted. Both GMs are happy.

great job by the Habs to max out the value for Selanne, now just pray he signs

for the Kings, keep hammering away at your team, can't wait to see the end result once the puck drops... your turnover has been fun to watch
