Well, I don't see any reason not to, but you might want to visit a couple of BB forums to see. I frequent CrackBerry which is a good one.

Bold 9700 is $99 last time I checked. Typical 3 year deal, minimum $50 voice/data. I'm thinking the 9800 might be $299 for the first 3 months then it'll go down to $199 during Xmas promo.

That 9800 is so nice, I almost want to get rid of my storm2 after only a year by Christmas.

I bought my 9700 at Wind Mobile. $450.00 to buy it and no contract. I am on a pay as I go contract.

BlackBerry is living 2 years in the past with this device based on early reviews, but that is probably the best looking smartphone on the market.

I don't mind it, but I'm still going to stick with my 9700. I've never been a fan of sliders. I like have the KB right out there. That is one of the reasons why I switched to BB from an iPhone.
My 9700 does everything I ask it to and more and I have NEVER pulled the battery as people like to claim BB users have to do all the time. Not once have I had to and I use this thing. It's been solid.

RIM Unleashes BlackBerry 6
Quote:
Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced BlackBerry® 6, a new operating system for BlackBerry® smartphones that retains the trusted features that distinguish the BlackBerry brand while delivering a fresh, approachable and engaging experience that is both powerful and easy to use.

And for some who were worried the Bold 9700 wouldn't run this new OS:
Quote:
BlackBerry 6 will debut on the new BlackBerry Torch smartphone (announced today) available from AT&T on August 12 and it is also designed to run on select BlackBerry smartphones already in market. Subject to carrier certifications in the months ahead, the new OS is expected to be available for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Pearl 3G, as well as future BlackBerry smartphones.

I like the slider, depending on how OS 6 is this looks like a good phone, though wish the screen resolution was higher.
Might have to check into the developer API's to see if that's improved, I hate doing BB apps right now, people come and ask for quotes to do cross platform apps and the BB cost is always huge because it's so much harder to do on BB.. and of course there's still a huge # of legacy ppl out there on ooooold OSes to support.

I've seen a lot of video on OS6 and it looks like a very nice interface and some big improvements.
I don't surf much at all on my phone, but that would be the biggest complaint I hear from BB users who do. OS 6 looks to improve that considerably:

Fast Rich Web Browsing
BlackBerry 6 integrates a new and efficient WebKit-based browser that renders web pages (as well as email) quickly and beautifully for a great browsing experience. It features tabs for accessing multiple sites simultaneously, an auto-wrap text zoom feature that can intelligently wrap text in a column while maintaining the placement of a page's key elements, and pinch to zoom.

Yeah having a Webkit engine for the browser makes it an actual competent browser, about time.

What I don't understand is how Sasktel is going to charge me $199 for a Storm 2 while Rogers will give me an iPhone 4 for $159 on the same plan.
Seems like the iPhone is a vastly superior phone, for $40 cheaper.

Same old same old for RIM. Hopefully OS 6 will evolve and improve rapidly - I’m not sure anyone is all that interested in a choppy performing browser.
From here: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/...9800-hands-on/
The hardware (casing, build quality, feel) is typical RIM — it’s great. Very solid, actually a bit heavy, but a very good feel. The sliding mechanism is top notch.
The software is typical RIM — uninspired, old, clunky sometimes, and cluttered. Even with the new UI elements in OS 6, we experienced choppiness in the web browser, hangs navigating between screens, and a general feeling of well… claustrophobia sometimes. The simplified BlackBerry now sort of feels like too much has been added without thinking of the ramifications.
The keyboard is perfect — just like a Bold 9700, and it seems to not be dug in the slider mechanism, unlike the Palm Pre.
The internals of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 are disappointing. From the 624MHz CPU to only 512MB of RAM, to the 1300mAh battery, it has us a little worried as it feels like the hardware is pushed to the max. On a brand new phone. That’s not even out yet.
The screen is laughable. For a company that is always “planning three years out” they surely didn’t get the memo that a 480×360, poor, poor LCD wasn’t going to cut it in 2010. That’s the focal point of the entire device, and it makes you feel outdated out of the gate.

How is the iPhone vastly superior?
This would be a carrier issue. They decide what they want to charge. Has nothing to do with the phones.

The curve I find so/so, the build of it feels cheaper then the bold/new pearl/tour.

How is the iPhone 4 vastly superior to a Storm2? Are you kidding me? A shattered iPhone 3GS is vastly superior to a Storm2. An iPhone 3G... then you're getting down to two phones that match up.
But since you asked... better screen, infinitely better keyboard, better app store, better YouTube quality, better OS. Any of screen, keyboard, or OS alone make the iPhone way better than the Storm2.

Hardware aside, the iPhone 3Gs simply has a slicker OS. I did the dilligence to consider all the smart phones out there when I bought my iphone 3GS, and I have to tell you nothing compared at all.
Actually, even the hardware is nice as hell. I dont know... I dont understand the appeal of the slide-out keyboard.
Sorry I'm totally gushing on the iphone in the wrong thread, but its just so nice compared to my BB Pearl... and I know, I know. Apples to Oranges.
