Indeed - but what is it you are going to remember about it?
The message or "there was this day that Greenpeace attacked the Calgary tower!"
I would also be willing to bet that a year and a half from now, as many people will remember this as remember the anti-coalition protest today, which was a year and a half ago.

The message people will remember a year and a half from now is the message you mentioned before - that that organization likes to be idiots.

I wonder if those Greenpeace geniuses know that their sign was probably made of petroleum products.

I doubt that. I bet a good chunk of Calgarians don't even remember the anti-coalition protest. I'd be willing to put money on that.
Greenpeace "attacking" the Calgary tower is, again, one mans opinion.
People will remember them for putting up a message protesting the current state of the oil business. The actual words on the banner are negligible. Much like the signs in the crowd of anti-coalition protestors.

Can someone explain what their banner even means? I mean, I know what it means, but it doesn't even make sense to me.

The words "Greenpeace" and "Alberta" used together are usually contextual to oil sands development. Most normal people will remember their cause as being oil related.

It's not supposed to make sense.
You are just supposed to remember that they did something and because they did something and you remembered that they did something, them doing something actually had an effect on something.
What all those somethings are is irrelevant - much like them.

Not at all. I bet the most frequent reference to the story 1 year from today will be "Hey, do you remember last year when those ****ing Greenpeace idiots tried to hang some banner off of the Calgary Tower?".
The words "Greenpeace" and "****ing idiots" will be far more likely to be in any reference to the story than the word "oil".

I'm pretty sure I'm going to remember their message being ambiguous and their method of conveying it illegal. Just another reason why I'll never support their organization, just like PETA. Because while I'm sympathetic to both their causes (or at least what they claim to be their causes) their antics are embarrassing and pathetic.

Plus, I'm sure that the Oil companies love the message that Greenpeace put up on the tower today. It should be in every Oil company advertisment and annual report.
See Greenpeace wants less government intervention in the Energy business.
It would be funny if the Oil companies invaded the Calgary tower next week and uhng a banner that read we Heart Greenpeace.

So they'll have succeeded in reminding people that they are against oil and gas development. Not exactly a newsflash there.

Not meant to be anything new. Just a reminder.
Messages, particlarly ideals, are better remembered when you're reminded of them more than once.
Greenpeace is a genius at getting pubilc attention, even if you hate them with a buring passion. No one can deny that.

Meh. If these guys had any skills they would have scaled The Bow and draped it from there, but they probably would have been beat up by steel workers.

Like I said, there is no message here other than that organization showing the world that they are idiots. And definitely, that message is better remembered because that organization continually pounds it into our heads.
That organization is genius at getting public attention, but that's not really a good thing for them.

Will they? You see, I know that Greenpeace is known for this kind of idiocy, but damned if I can remember the specifics of any previous protest.
Now, I remember the anti-coalition protest because I was there, and that is precisely why it popped into my head when we were discussion the merits of civil disobedience. And while that protest is now largely forgotten, it does need to be noted that the message was successfully delivered: The majority of Canadians opposed the coalition.
In this case, will the message be successfully delivered? Only if the message really is to promote Greenpeace. These fools wont change the opinion of anyone in Alberta with these tactics, and it is the people of Alberta they need to challenge. After all, we are the ones that vote and support the very government that Greenpeace supposedly wants out of the oil industry.

Greenpeace is a genius at wasting public attention. If you don't already hate them, you soon will.

I agree with Ozy_Flame. Greenpeace was just trying to bring some 'culture' to the cultural wasteland that is Calgary.
