LF Volunteering ideas
Polling the CP community again, I'm looking to do some volunteering that isn't too intensive (minimum 4 hrs a month, minimum amount to have my employer donate $500 if I volunteer those hours). Again I'm not sure what I'm really looking for, so I'm hoping to get some ideas of what are some fun volunteering things people might have done here.
I'm not looking to raise money by going door to door to sell chocolate covered peanuts or anything, I'm looking for something that I would get to work with people and I get to see the gratitude for my volunteering, something like volunteering at a camp for kids and you get to see them smile and laugh (but not exactly that). I also wouldn't mind finding something that, lets say, also has girls my age (25) voluneering there too.
Ideas?
(update for those interested: I looked into Plan Canada, my company won't match since I work in the USA for a USA employer, so I'm looking for an American company now similar to Plan Canada )

Take a look at becoming a Big Brother but be sure you're ready to commit. Last thing you want to do is be one "temporarily". I have nothing but positive things to say about becoming a Big Brother. The difference you make is enormous.

They let me work that off by performing sacreligious things to the Catholic church and distancing myself from the Pope

Try being a soccer coach, you actually get to help kids over a decent period of time.

Soccer - not a bad option. Big Brother - might not be a good option, because my work hours vary, so I'd like something with a little less commitment.

How about the Food Bank? I've volunteered a few times here in Calgary.
Especially rewarding around Christmas time when you get to deliver full food hampers to families in need.

Habitat for Humanity. All men should learn how to build a house anyways...

I've built with Habitat for Humanity before. Good times, and about those hours...

Isn't HH something that takes a few days to do? I don't know if I can get time off work...
I kind of like the soccer coach idea, but it doesn't get me the "meet girls my own age" req... maybe I could just settle for a MILF.

The MILFS are worth it.

Find something that your interested in and then match it to an organization that needs that skill.
If your going to volunteer, volunteer to do something that your passionate about.
If you like working with kids, then coach, or volunteer for a reading program.
If you like doing logistical work then help out the food bank.
If you like building stuff then volunteer for habitat for humanity.
If you like history then volunteer at a museum.

If you like GILFs, volunteer at a old folks home.
If you like HILFs, volunteer at a soup kitchen.
If you like DILFs, volunteer at an SPCA.

Obviously you've looked at this: http://www.volunteerinfo.org/
Not knowing what your interests are, would be hard to pick one... but going with the "hard-up-for-a-date" angle: Breast Cancer Awareness?
Looking at the list, the name: "Give a dog a bone" caught my eye.

Well that really wasn't the main reason so I wouldn't go that far, but it would be nice to meet someone other than more engineers since I work in Man Jose. Though if I'm going to be coaching soccer, I'm definitely going to be cougar hunting.
I don't know exactly what I'm looking for, and I'm hoping to branch out a little from my skills. Something like volunteering at some sort of thing like saving/helping sea life thing was a suggestion I've heard.
