I'm a little disappointed that the Jays weren't able to swing any deals. I would have been fine with seeing Downs, Buck, Bautista, Overbay and Gregg go. Of course, they are all good players but this team isn't going anywhere this year or next year. Sell high - Buck, Bautista and Gregg are probably as highly touted as they will ever be. However, I also appreciate that AA isn't going to just dump these players for little to no return. They aren't salary dumps per se as they all have good contracts so it makes it crucial to get a really solid prospect in return for each player.
It's nice to be dealing out of a position of power rather than necessity and this year it appears that a bunch of players really caught lightning in a bottle. Hopefully, the lightning will stick around for a while.

Downs will get Arbritation for sure.

i disagree. I think a struggling rookie would have made deals for the sake of making deals. i think AA came off as more of a vet that understood that he had options that allowed him to have high prices. It would make more sense if he had high asking prices, and no options but he doesn't.
I think they will offer arbitration to Buck. Buck has already said he has no interest in being in a platoon situation and I think the jays want JPa to be in the majors next year and play alot. So i don't think buck would have interest in staying in Toronto next season so he's not a big risk for arbitration.
I agree that overbay and Frasor are not good aribrtation candidates, but i'm still not rulling out Overbay being traded and I dont think we knew the price on Frasor. i have a ahrd time beliving there is a team out there willing to give up even an average prospect for frasor.

Why isn't Overbay a good candidate? Maybe the bat isn't great this year but he's one of the best defensive first basemen in the league. There's no first baseman in the system that even come close to him defensively.
If Overbay left today, who would play first?

That and the Jays, if he walks, get 2 supplementary first rounders. Why in the world would they deal the guy when that return is more than likely better than any player deal a team would be willing to give up? Overbay definitely has trade value, but at the end of the day they'd likely not going to get a ton for him. He's gonna play out the season with the Jays I'm sure.

For the reason Overbay has a high salary if he was offered Arbritation a raise is required and he would accept.
There is zero chance the Jays will offer Arbritation (i.e. no compensation).
I am sure he would make it through the Waiver and he could be a candiate for a trade in August.

I'm sure the Jays would be more than willing to cover the cost of his remaining salary (2.8 million) if it meant that we'd get a decent prospect for him. Really anything for him would be a great return.

Anything for him? Overbay has value. If he left who would play first? Lind?
I'd like Overbay around another year if possible. To make that bridge to the next first baseman.

How about this: AJ Burnett and/or Joba Chamberlain for absolutely anything on the Blue Jays roster?

I can't even begin to tell you guys how happy I am that Cito finally decided to let Snider up off the bench and even let him bat higher than 9th in the order!!
Good to see the kid respond, now he needs to be in the lineup everyday. No more pulling him against lefties, let him figure it out. Hopefully Encarnacion is taken off the roster soon they can move Bautista to third and go with an outfield of Lewis/Wells/Snider to close out the year.
Also, it's great to see David Purcey doing so well in relief. He'll always be a bust as a starter but it would be great to see him salvage his career as a good setup man.

To put Snider in the line-up they wlll have to move Bautista to 3rd every few games. They have no other choice as Lewis is the lead-off expert.

You could have Snider DH and put Lind at first. Lind has to learn how to play first someday.

Personally I would rather have Snider in AAA then place a young guy like that at DH. The Jays are far better off having Snider in the Field and Bautista at 3rd. Then placing Snider in the DH spot.
However, I do see Lind as the 1st Baseman next season. He needs Spring training to get him ready for that position. I don't believe he has played any games as of yet as a 1st Baseman (this year).

I could care less if the defensive downgrade from Bautista to Snider in the oufield costs the team a game or two. You don't bench your future #3 hitter in a rebuilding year because of defence.

Snider is actually a really good Outfielder. Bautista has a stronger arm but that would be it.
The Weakest fielder out of the bunch is Lewis (runs poor routes).
I totally agree, Jays need to play Snider consistently in the Field.
