Default Rubicon - New AMC Conspiracy Thriller

Should have posted this earlier in the day, but the first season of Rubicon started today with the pilot re-airing for the third time and episode 2 premiering.

The spiel from the show's website:
Quote:
Will Travers is an intelligence analyst who cracks codes for a living. When Will’s world is shattered by an untimely death he begins asking questions, diving into a web of mystery and danger.
Not a synopsis that's going to blow you away, but the show's extremely well written, features good acting, and, given that it's AMC, I'm trusting that they'll let it be a really intelligent thriller.

I enjoyed the preview AMC snuck into the BB season finale. Looks like it could be a pretty decent show.

I didn't find it too bad. I'll give it a few more episodes to get rooted before really complaining about it.

Is AMC trying to become HBO?

No, and they'll always be limited by having to censor themselves because they are on basic cable. They are however making all the major networks look extremely stupid by producing amazing quality shows, at a fraction of the cost.

Maybe you didn't mean it this way, but I don't think Mad Men, Breaking Bad, or Rubicon have been harmed in the slightest by not having nudity or swearing.

AMC's motto is "Story Matters Here" and that's why these shows work -- they concentrate on great writing and great story, which doesn't require nudity or swearing. I doubt the writers on these shows have had to censor themselves at all.

Exactly, the writing is so amazing on these shows its all that matters. In a show like Mad Men which concentrates on the conservative nature of the late 50's-60's, the lack of swearing in the dialogue seems in keeping with spirit of the show.

Breaking Bad has bleeped lines and fuzzed out nudity in some episodes, but given the nature of the business and people involved it would be realistic for the characters to be profane.

The writers for both of these shows know that its not HBO, and have the ability to write around that absolute freedom- doing it brilliantly.

There is so many terrible shows that just jam in the snappy profanity with T+A, where the bad writing can't be overcome and the attempts are totally obvious. Then you look at a show like 'The Wire', and realize that it wouldn't have been as good as it was it was on ABC,NBC,AMC, etc.

It'll be repeated a few more times during the week.

I am pretty sure they are airing episode 2 tonight, as well as the premiere again. I'll check this out.

My Sunday nights are already booked with Big Brother, Mad Men, Hun, True Blood and Entourage. I don't have room for another show, but given AMC's track record, I HAVE to give Rubicon a shot. Will watch it tonight for sure.

Totally forgot there was a Rubicon thread. I mentioned this is the Mad Men thread. I thought tonight was the series best episode yet. Very intense and some strong scenes. The scene with Will and Spangler was very well written.

It was great how much they managed to develop all of the storylines tonight. I can't wait to see how Spangler reacts to finding out Will is still alive.

Love this show. I hope it gets decent enough ratings for AMC to re-new it for a second season.

This show has gotten better and better. I have my doubts whether it'll get renewed though.
