Four hockey rinks stacked on top of each other
An all-glass, four-arena facility with the ice pads stacked on top of each other.

interesting idea presumably you would only need a quarter of the land you would normally need for four ice pads - i wonder how it would be plaqying hockey in there when it is sunny outside. Conversely I wonder if the views offered by the building would be distracting to playas.

Seems like it would be more expensive than the 34mil proposed cost.

Why the frack do you need 4 sheets on the waterfront? Put it where the people are, build it as cheap as possible and put 12 sheets of ice in. Dumb.

not sure that the glass curtain walls are a good idea either. I played on a rink where the sun was able to shine through a window onto the ice. it was quite bright and cast shadows all over. And it makes it hard to see when it shines in your eyes or reflects off the visor. Maybe it will be tinted or polarized glass?

Seems like that building is in the design phase so I am sure it will change alot from the pie in the sky artist rendition.

I don't think too many playas visit hockey arenas.

I play at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan, which is elevated above the Hudson river. It takes some getting used to, seeing yachts cruise behind the bench is weird, but once you start playing you really don't notice. The biggest issue is heat, the summer league is pretty much slush hockey.

I agree
Just wait till the parents have to pay for parking too.
It will cost probably $20 to watch your kid play.

Wait until they supplement income by puttng in housing in that building. Imagine the poor sap that will have to live above one hockey rink and below another hockey rink.

They are building it where the people are....the people who live downtown and in the inner city.

I'm going to guess a good chunk of people who would use this rink wouldn't be coming by car.

I am sure some 8 year old kid is going to carry his hockey bag 5+ blocks to get from home to the arena.
(I might be wrong though, I never played hockey)

I would hate playing if Wellwood somehow was on the rink above me.

Calgary has an above-ground arena in Huntington Hills. The curling rink is below grade, and the skating rink is a flight of stairs up.

Then you've never lived in an inner-city neighborhood of a large city. I see people carrying hockey gear on the subway all the time. Believe it or not, some people can survive without a car.
