It’s actually that and real estate.

I don’t fully understand, and someone else here does for sure because they clued me into it - but as I understand it, McDonalds owns all the buildings, and franchisee’s must lease the space from McDonalds. That and their toy sales are what keep them in operation.

I also think, but I’m not certain, that the franchisee’s buy their McDonalds ingredients direct from suppliers, and not from the parent company, which further reinforces the notion that its all about real estate and toys.

I’m posting this in the hopes that whoever originally clued me into this can write more detail..

The wierd thing about Mcdonalds for me is that I never (aside from the occasional sausage mcmuffin) eat it while here at home in Canada. When I start travelling though I find myself eating Big Macs a couple of times a week! Something to be said for the fact I can order and recieve a Big Mac in Prague that is identical to one I could order and recieve here. The biggest factor though is that I love a burger once and a while and good luck finding one overseas aside from at Mcdonalds.

The drugs must be in the food because it certainly doesn't taste good.

If you think it tastes good, your hooked.

And marketing. Relentless, wildly successful, world wide marketing that has made their brand what it is today.

100% agree on the marketing playing a huge part to their sucess. Let's face it, kids love going to MacDonalds. I remember when I was a kid, I loved it whenever my parents took me there.

I remember watching the news where they did a study on kids. They wrapped MacDonalds food in plain wrapper and had kids taste test that against the same food wrapped in MacDonalds wrappers. All the kids said the MacDonalds wrapped ones tasted better, even though its the exact same food.

Edit: Completely off topic, but I really don't understand what it means when someone quotes something but doesn't have any comment below it. I see those thanked sometimes, so I'm guessing I'm missing out on some kind of inside joke.

You know what? I'm changing my 1 star vote because of Peter12's portrait.

Puckluck, you are still a whiner, but this thread is now a winner!

So I'm reading this thread on my BB Bold 9700 and I really wanted to read the beyond.ca thread, but I had to click on the next page link to finish reading this thread first. Now I don't want to have to click my back button because it will have to reload the previous page and I don't want to wait for it to reload. So because no one has relinked to the thread on this page and I've got my settings at fifty posts per page do I have a case against CP because it's made my BB Bold 9700 irritate me?
