Notice how it's a shared entry/exit lane, with people entering onto 52St from 16Ave and people exiting 52St onto 16Ave? See that yield sign telling the people entering to yield the right of way to the people exiting, who are turning into the same lane you're coming in on?

What do you think happens when you rip through that sign, and treat it like a merge lane while someone next to you (with the right of way) is trying to exit at the same time?
Phone 311. Make them aware of that intersection. I've put in numerous cases about signage and they usually do something about it.

It's been 20 yrs but do you mean Crowchild North ?

The way I remember it Bow TR. west to Crowchild North and 12 ave used to merge with Bow first then Crowchild, it was bad way back then I can only imagine now.

I am a big hater of left lane hogs but there are so many left turns on Macleod that it is excusable to drive in the left lane for a long period of time.

Keep Right Except to pass is a sign for the added passing lane, a climbing lane.

Bite your tongue! The way traffic works over there is awesome. Instead of moving around like robots with horse blinders on (like we do), their traffic moves like a crowd of people walking. Organized chaos. It's beautiful.

I have one that was "sort of" talked about already. I would like to know if you can turn left from a one way onto another one way on a red from the second lane on the left. Because this is confusing I will mention that the intersection I am specifically thinking of is turning left from Anthony Henday to 16A in Edmonton.

I know that you can turn into the far left lane from the far left lane on a red, but I want to know if you are one lane over if you can still do this?

Even if you're traveling "at or near the posted speed" you should still get your ass over to the right lane if someone coming up behind you in the left is going faster. It's safer for all parties involved.

I will most certainly agree with you that the highways in general flow much better in Europe than in Canada because they allow for people to go 130kmh plus. They need to increase the speed limits on many of the highways in Canada.

Also, having a lot of traffic circles helps the flow. But, my limited experience driving over here has shown me that near accidents, jam ups, horn honking and near pedestrian hits is far more common in Europe than in Alberta at least.

Also, I want to clarify a point I made in my first post. I didn't mean to label European drivers as "bad" drivers, just drivers who do not follow driving laws.

While not mandatory, keeping right is a common courtesy no matter what your speed.

You have every right to not move out of the way but you're a dick and you will get tailgated and the brights.

It is not mandatory for you to hold a door for someone but it is rude not to.

What? The yield sign there and at 36th Street (also McKnight Westbound onto Deerfoot southbound) is completely and utterly meaningless. There is no one to yield to - hence, the reason why no one yields at those places. There's people that stop - those are the people that almost always cause accidents.

If the situation was to be treated like you say, the lines on the road would have to be painted differently. As a driver, you should merge at those intersections, its the only safe thing to do. Sure it's a short merge lane, but traffic is only going 60km/h, often less, due to traffic accelerating from the light just before, or backed up from the lights ahead.

Seriously, I have driven those ramps hundreds - maybe thousands of times, and at least 99% of the time, drivers merge there. You can always tell who the drivers are that haven't driven there before, they are the ones coming to a stop, or going really slow. Meanwhile, without fail, someone nearly rear ends them.

A lot less "meaningless" when you hit someone and are deemed at fault. This sign mandates that you yield to any traffic that is exiting to the right, what do the road markings have to do with it?

How in the world could I be deemed at fault? I have my own lane to drive in, from which I speed match and then lane change (i.e. a merge). THERE ISN"T ANYONE TO YIELD TO. That's the point. That's not how a yield sign works.

Perhaps, a yield sign might make sense if the lines were painted on the road different, but the signage and lines have been the way they are for 30 years.

If I merge improperly, and hit a car becasue of that, then I'd be at fault, but If I'm attempting to merge, and a car comes from the left trying to exit and hits me, they would be at fault, as they would have not made sure the lane they were entering was clear.

I can agree with this partially. It would, however, be much safer for all parties involved if people did not deem some laws as optional - that is the root of the problem.
