Its a big brand US beer. Its been around for a long time. I think I remember hearing commercials for it on those old radio shows from the 40's and 50's. Its been around over 100 years. On wiki they say it peaked it sales in 1977.

LOL@wiki noting PBR's resurgence is due to hipsters. I'm sure its price had something to do with it as well, as did the recession.

Well, it is a US beer that has been around for a heck of a long time, I will give you that. But I am not sure you would put it into the same category as Budweiser, Miller or Coors though.

True. Looked up some stats that surprised me...

"In 2003, three beer companies represented 82% of all the beer sold in America: Anheuser-Busch (51.9%), Miller (18.7%) and Coors (11.3%)"

That 50+% for Anheuser-Busch is pretty crazy. That's a lot of Bud and Michelob.

Those stats are crazy. I cannot believe Anheuser-Busch has 50+% of American beer sales, I would never have guessed that.

Whatever you do, don't buy Roughneck Drillers Ale. I drank some of their...Pipeline Lager I think it's called one time, and it was delicious and cheap. Sadly, I didn't realize I was buying the Driller's Ale when I bought two flats of the stuff...I've been slowly pawning it off on unsuspecting visitors if they want a beer and clam.

The ales are where it is at, and it seems like you usually get better tasting ones (or just more taste at all) with the smaller micro brews because they appeal to a smaller market. Thus, the mass market ones usually aren't my first choice, though there are a few good ones amongst them.

Here's the thing. I like a lot of different beers. My favourites in Canada are Wild Rose Velvet Fog, Steam Whistle, and Sleemans Honey Brown. But I wanted to try some other things out, just to see if I didn't like them. I actually quite enjoy Budweiser.

Also.. never ever go near anything made by Mountain Crest. The company is shady as hell, and the beer I've tasted is just awful.

IMO Creemore Springs is right there with Steam Whistle for the best in Canada.

TNT is one of the worst beers I've ever been unfortunate enough to drink. It also gave me the worst cheap beer headache I've ever experienced.

+1 for PBR.

I don't know if you guys get this in Alberta, but it's pretty decent for cheap beer.

I just got back from Victoria recently, all the guys we met with drink this. I didn't enjoy it too much but it was fine. When I got to Vancouver no one was drinking it, but rather were drinking Pacific Pilsner, which is not too bad and I've taken it rafting on the Bow.

CO-OP Gold is a good ~$1 beer. I also like Lucky Strong alot, especially compared to regular Lucky. R&R is my Rye of choice and it is cheap

St. Ambroise makes some of the best beer produced in Canada. Certainly doesn't belong in the cheap booze thread but I have had 4 or 5 different varieties and loved them all.

Thank you Quebec for poutine, smoked meat, and St. Ambroise, it almost makes it worth putting up with you!

Boxer delivers probably the nastiest hangover from any beer I've ever tried. There is a reason it's $20 some dollars for 30 of them......
