Where did I say it exempts people from following the law?

I'm saying once you pass the person you are trying to pass, move over. I don't know how much you drive but you may notice these signs:

Left lane is for passing, not cruising along on your way to work or on your road trip. If you can't pass because you want to follow the law to the full extent, MOVE OVER to the right lane to do that!!!

edit: Watch Hemi-Cuda video to understand why it's important and how you actually endanger other people by being an idiot and not knowing how to drive.

Apparently, this is not the case in Ontario.

You are allowed to drive on the left of the center line unless:

a)when approaching the crest of a grade or upon a curve in the roadway or within 30 metres of a bridge, viaduct or tunnel where the driver’s view is obstructed within that distance so as to create a potential hazard in the event another vehicle might approach from the opposite direction; or

b)when approaching within 30 metres of a level railway crossing. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 149 (1).

The LAW is that slower traffic must keep right and the left lane is for passing only. I pray that before I die I see the day where police in this province seriously enforce the rule.

It's somewhat understandable because EVERY other intersection in the city operates as protected arrow then yield on green lefts, unlike Calgary.
What intersection are you talking about?

I didn't realize this was an old thread, so I started reading and I couldn't believe there was another Calgarian who was unaware of how a four-way-stop works!

I was in the beltline for the first time in years. I was at the intersection and a guy turned left between the people as they walked across the crosswalk. One group was faster than the other and he just gunned it through. Isn't that a major ticket? Nobody seemed to care. Even the pedestrians.

I recall hearing that the cops were going to do a 'blitz' regarding people not waiting for pedestrians to make it through the crosswalk, a few years ago.
I wait (except DT during rush hour, when right turning), because I saw an asshool almost kill a guy, by just gunning through, even though lights were flashing.

You know what I heard once... and this is the most ABSURD thing I have heard for a while...

When I was driving in Ottawa when a few friends were visiting from Calgary, I was going into this traffic circle, what didn't make ANY sense, was that the vehicles INSIDE this circle yields to the traffic coming into the circle. So I made a comment saying: This is the most screwed up traffic circle in the world, the cars inside yields to the ones coming in. A friend made a comment: That's how it's supposed to be.

Wow... wtf are they teaching in Calgary regarding traffic circles?

Pretty sure you have to wait until the pedestrian has stepped foot on the sidewalk.

Your friend is a unforunately a terrible driver. The vehicles entering are supposed to yield.

Well that traffic circle has yield signs for cars INSIDE the circle, so because of that, that technically isn't a traffic circle... but that comment from my friend, yup, still cannot believe it.

She... is still going or has just recently finished the in class portion of driving school.

Still only have her learners, not sure about her in car lessons.

She is also half Asian...

Hmmm. I haven't noticed this signal. I go by there only once per week, and it has always been timed that the turn signal is still flashing when I turn onto McMaster.

What Lethbridge really needs to do, is make EVERY intersection a 4-way stop so people learn how to properly use one, or just get rid of them altogether and put up lights.

Right when they finished they had the lights like you say, maxing out every phase. Now they're timed based on the detectors and that turn to McMaster will end early with the 2 Whoop-Up thru lanes still showing green. Made for some confused drivers and a bit of honking last week.

stuff that drives me nuts...not sure if these are illegal (some were already mentioned)...

- slower traffic keep right!

- crazy varying of speed. i doubt it's a law, but it's brutal when you get behind someone who goes anywhere from 10 over to 30 under for no apparent reason. one second you can't keep up, the next you're trying not to rear end them.

- stopping to let a little cute ducky cross the road - give me a break people. i'd rather hit the duck than put the lives of others at risk. a girl in quebec was recently charged (not sure with what) for stopping on a highway to let something cross, which caused a fatal accident

- and people who don't know how to use a round-about. i almost rear ended a lady last week who felt she needed to stop in the middle of the round-about so that the cars that are supposed to yield to her could get in!

arrghh!!!

ohh there's a very good reason for that massive variation of speed, it's called the cell phone. Had a guy blow by me one night on crowchild, I was doing 90-95ish as it was he was probably over 110, whatever, I don't give a crap it's later in the evening and the roads empty. So he disappears around a corner, next thing I know I'm coming up on him like he's standing still, probably going about 70, i look over as I cruise by and sure enough there he is with his hand rammed up against his ear flapping his gums.

I use to think that Alberta had a lot of bad drivers. I am just finishing up my trip here in Europe where I have been driving in France and Italy for the last 2 weeks. I have to say that Canadian drivers are saints compared to these yahoos. People over here are just seeking a way to kill themselves.

I drove for more than 3000km through 3 countries and I say 1 police car doing radar. I never saw any other traffic enforcement that entire time. Maybe it was just a coincidence but I can drive down highway 2 from Edmonton to Calgary and probably see 3-6 police/sheriffs.

it's now illegal to use cells while driving in bc... but the rcmp sure don't enforce it... they should - they'd bring in a fortune in fines!
