setting up a 360 as a media server to a box running Windows 7 is ridiculously simple, plus you get support for more formats natively (with a small DIVX codec download you can even stream high definition .mkv files to the Xbox without transcoding)
the biggest reason i use my 360 as a media server over my PS3 though is because of the IR remote. i have my Shaw remote programmed for all the devices in my house, including the Xbox. i can't do that with the PS3 because of the bluetooth. i do like the PS3 controllers better though since you don't have to buy batteries or battery packs + charger
