That really is hilarious! The poll should be changed to trying to guess what the "nuke" is now! I already know that I'm going to disagree with whatever it is, but I can hardly wait for the last few days of the campaign to find out!
I guess it's like seeing a trailer for a movie that looks absolutely hilarious and waiting for the release date. In this case you know the biggest laughs are not in the trailer!

I had a good chuckle over this quote from that article about Barb running:
Quote:
Not a bad idea, that. Higgins is very popular and able; and for many years she's been a tireless volunteer in the community.
She would, in short, give Ald. Ric McIver a heck of a scare.
|
What really threw me off was that this article was in the Herald, whereas I was under the impression that only Sun readers were dumb enough to follow McIver

How did Hehr only have 8% and Nenshi not even earn a mention?
Ugh, I feel like I need to become more vocal in campaigning against McNo

It actually states in the Metro article the details of the sample population.

McIver is pretty smart - he gets his name out there a ton not just in the Sun and is always on message.
And right now in the minds of many he's the type of mayor to correct a council that has been guilty of overspending.
Timing is everything and his timing may be perfect to land in the big chair.
Not saying it's the right choice - but I could see it happening.

Voted for Kodos
|
Soooo, first they just take people who respond to polls on his website, then they "take from" those respondants? In other words, weed out the non-mcIver votes?
Surprised to see McIver only at 44%, that certainly doesn't look good for him.

While McIver is in the newspaper, Nenshi is all over twitter.

Smart but only if the young people actually get off their asses and vote. Old people vote. Nenshi needs to activate the younger demographic.

Actually.. last election nobody voted. What was it 30% turnout?
Nenshi probably has the MRU population, a good rep on twitter, and he's a herald columnist.
We just need more people like CaptainCrunch who just get fed up with anyone who's been on council.

I have been silently supporting Nenshi so far, but today I will now make a financial commitment to his campaign, and look to volunteer in the future.
Thanks Craig!

This is what I don't get. How can people see McIver has "the guy" to get city spending on track when he has been a part of the problem this whole time.
People who vote for McIver don't care about budget controls one bit, rather, they are more concerned with having their guy man the sinking ship.

I think Jiri was merely saying that dumb people see McIver as a good guy because he is always against all the perceived 'waste' items.
Sad thing is, he is for nothing, just against it all. He has no solutions or good plans himself.
Except for bold he loves bold text.

The others besides McIver, need to establish themselves as a contender then people will weigh their decision amongst those candidates.
That said, this particular poll appears incredibly biased and has about as much credibility as the AGN poll which placed Wayne Stewart in the lead and McIver at 8%.

Craig Chandler is a complete buffoon, but make no mistake, he is NOT part of the McIver camp. McIver may have let him be involved in his first campaign 10 years ago, but since then their relationship has been mostly non-existent. As a matter of fact, Chandler has been told to stay away from McIver completely. The only existing relationship is one where Mr. Chandler tries to hitch his name to Ric's for his own personal gain. For example, not that long ago, Chandler's Ward 14 candidate, Peter Demong, was doorknocking with Chandler claiming that McIver had endorsed him in Ward 14. Upon hearing of this, Ric became infuriated and they were told to stop.

Yeah, he sure tries to distance himself - with good reason.
But the mere fact that Chandler continually expresses that Ric is the guy he wants to get elected, tells you something about the politics of Ric.
