Finkprof: (or anyone) Why the horizontal rig crew working west side of Sarcee, maybe 850 m south of 17th Avenue?
I assume it is related, just seems a fair distance away from the rest of the construction.

The video is quite good, though!

They also said that they are on schedule. They are already two months behind.

Not exactly sure, but I know there is a lot of utility work that needs to be done in the Sarcee/17th area (since Sarcee is a major Transportation Utility Corridor). I would guess that.

Good video and story by CBC about the big yellow launching truss that is currently set up near Shaw Millennium Park. Get ready to see it in action starting in 2 weeks.

I am pretty sure that the Westbrook station would have been ghettofied in 2 days, being underground and near little Sudan... I think the city proactively installed that station as part of the C-Train offices as a way to combat that.

From the West LRT traffic email I received last night, it looks as though access from Bow Trail to 33rd St SW will be ending this weekend until October. I'll have to find a new route to and from work. Fun!

Another note I forgot to add. The big yellow launching truss near Millennium Park is now in action and installing segments of the elevated guideway.

^^ So that truss is currently sitting in it's permanant home? I saw it the other day- pretty cool to see such a major project take shape.

Not its permanent home, it will move westward as it assembles the elevated line that direction. Will be very interesting to see how they move that thing!

I live in the area, and some residents call it "Little Mogadishu" . . . I do believe the low-income housing will be phased out in the next two years though. The City seems to continually come in and mark the infrastructure in that area with re-zoning or demolition schematics . . . If I was a guessing man, I'd say the end is nigh.

Anyone know what the F they are doing at the 24th street pedestrian bridge? (South side of bow)
Over the past 2 weeks they've rammed ~20 steel I-beams into the ground, all at awkward angles and such. Seems like a terrible way to make a support/foundation for a new bridge.

You think so? Arn't they in the process of redoing the exteriors of all those projects? (why they picked red I have no idea)

1) I believe they are building the foundational support for a winding ramp bridge. I heard that through the grapevine, but I could be wrong. However, I do know it looks incredible weird, and they seem to be "working" on it. Whatever that involves.2) As for the low-income housing project, I believe the small duplexes are going to be removed; the red buildings are a different property.Apparently, that red building that's about 15 stories was apparently built a LONG time ago, but was vacant for most of that time. It was just recently finished. That is a low-income housing unit as well.

1) Still don't understand how ramming I-beams in the ground at random angles makes a good foundation. But what do I know?
2) While getting rid of a good chunk of the low-income properties is a good start, there are still a large number of units in the apartment block and the surrounding buildings (the ones that are already red).
Where are all these people going to move? And what will be the impact on Westbrook's street cred?
