Default Dog boarding kennel recommendations?

I’m looking at boarding my dog for a few days in August, and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a good boarding kennel in Calgary or Airdrie.

Quality is more important than cost to me in this case. I want to be able to leave the dog for 3 nights and not be worried about the little guy.

Also any tips or things I should know before boarding a dog would be appreciated, never done it before. My dog has his vaccinations and wormings up to date including the vaccination for kennel cough.

Thanks!

SPRINGBANK pet resort is excellent and pretty reasonable.

there's one in balzac, pooch palace i believe it's called?

if you don't have to board your dog at a kennel, i wouldn't recommend it. My dog was never the same after a week at the kennel. He lost his voice from barking so much But he was kind of an antisocial dog, and they put him in a semi-private "room"

If you really must, I'd recommend a private "room"

My dog got kennel cough at the one in springbank about 10 minutes south off highway 1. I think you're supposed to get the immunization for that if you put them in a kennel, so it's probably our fault. It seemed ok otherwise.

My friends and I use Chasin Tails. It's a "free run" kennel where the dogs aren't boarded. They separate the large and small dogs as well.

You'll definitely need a form from the vet showing that the vaccinations etc are up to date.

Happy Tails near Cochrane is awesome! It's a bit of a drive from Calgary but certainly worth it.

The dogs personal kennel has nice amount of space with heated floors and access to their own personal outdoor run. They get a ton of time to run in a huge open area and they are great at grouping the appropriate dogs for this. They also get a lot of walks. I would venture to say they are out running and playing or walking more than they are in their kennels. The guy that runs the place is a total hippie but genuinely cares for our dog and knows what he is talking about.

They always clean our dog before we get him but he tends to come back a little dirty and very exhausted... a sign that he had a great time!

Their website kind of sucks but here it is if your interested link

Sleep Rover is pretty good. My cousin's gf takes her dogs there every now and than. They even post up pictures of the dogs having fun on facebook and stuff.

We just picked up our little dog from here after a 6 night stay. We'd brought her there for daycare before, but this was a boarding first. So far she seems like she enjoyed it... and I like the staff there, so I'd recomend this place too.

We've left our pups at Pet Planet in the SE, Deerfoot and Barlow down by Douglasdale. We've left them for as little as a weekend, as long as 20 days, and they seemed great. They do tons of exercise and play time, it's pretty reasonable and if you want you can pay extra to let your dog go swimming in their pool. When you get back they give you a report card describing you dogs appetite for every meal while you were gone, their behavior with other dogs, their bedtime and other notes. I always feel comfortable leaving my dogs there and it's in the city.

I don't really mean it from that point of view... although I won't complain or disagree.

I mean from the friendliness and dog-centric personalities. Sometimes you see people working at pet-related services and stores and they hate people and animals. At Chasin' Tails everyone is very friendly and good with the animals and owners.

I second this one.

I never thought I would be able to leave Stewie with other people, but looking into a few, we tried a couple of short stays to see how he would do and everything worked out very well.

I should mention our dog is an intact, horny, teenaged English Bulldog. There are very few kennels that take unfixed dogs.
It is very hard to find appropriate playmates for him, he's less than a foot tall and over 60 lbs, yet they always seem to find someone he is compatible with.

Try Wet Noses in Carsland.

It is out of your way but it is the best one I have ever used and I have tried plenty. There is open space to play, they get a massage, cleaned up,haircut with the rate

They call themselves a "Bed and Biscuit"

I've used Chasin' Tails too. I was happy with them. They even wash and groom there too. They also have a room for older (less active dogs) as well.

How are they with smaller dogs (around 10 pounds?). I have heard that they seperate the small dogs from big but what is the cut off?

10 lbs is a small dog, ours is about that and she is on the smaller side of dogs in the room. Ours is fiesty so we don't worry, plus the girls are watching them all day.

I'm not sure the exact cut off, but only once have a I seen a "big" dog in there, and it was a pup (probably right at their youngest age cut-off, and very very shy).

That Pet Planet treats the dogs terribly and their staff worse. Do not leave any dogs there.
