Default Tragic Accident Claims Life Of Teen

Northwest of Calgary at 11:20 am this morning a Volvo driving south on Range Road 32 was involved in a single vehicle rollover. All five occupants were teenagers.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, it entered the ditch, rolled several times before hitting a pole. He was ejected from the vehicle and thrown over 40 feet, he died at the scene.

All of the other four teens were injured. Emergency crews required the Jaws of Life to free them and they were then transported to the Alberta Children's Hospital.

My best wishes for a full recovery to the four teens who remain hospitalized. My condolences to the family and friends of the teen who lost his life.

No. Just have a familiarity with the situation. Can't be more specific.

Sad to see so many young people so badly hurt.

Thats why you always wear a seat belt. I saw a truck flip over the meridian on deerfoot by glenmore last tuesday. Both guys walked away because they wore their seat belts.

You don't get ejected from a vehicle if you're wearing one properly.

Its a tragic accident but the fault lies in the driver and driver alone. It wasn't some drunk who plowed into them and it was some innocent bystander. Unfortunately this driver became distracted, wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and ultimately paid the price.

You'd think you'd learn in this thread about reading the articles...

RCMP say distracted driving is believed to be a factor in the rollover.
The name of the victim hasn't been released.

You said the fault lies on the driver and the driver alone.
There's no way you can back that statement up right now.

Barring his friends assaulting him or something like that, its the driver's responsibility to keep his eyes on the road and not be distracted. And if there was something going on, pull over. Its not rocket science.

The 18-year-old male driver, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and thrown about 14 metres. He died at the scene.

There are lots of factors that might be involved in this.
Saying the fault is on the driver and the driver alone is ignorant.

Siuation is tragic but unless their is mechanicaly issues with the car or a medical conidition with the driver, in a single vehicle accident the vehicle doesnt lose control unless the driver wasnt paying attention.

That's really sad. I've never understood not wearing your seatbelt. It's rarely bothersome at all and it increases your chances of surviving an accident exponentially.

No, it's more common sense.

Not true.
I do agree those other factors could contribute to a situation like this though.

Nope you're incorrect Mayer.
The car could of had mechanical problems.
The driver could of had a medical issue.
An animal might of run across the road causing him to swerve at the last second.
There could of been debris on the road.
I can go on..
