This just in, it wasn't a ride, it was actually a mini donut stand that caught on fire.... wait, new update. It was the northbound c-train, it struck a stray daschund and it careened off the tracks at Erlton, and launched into the Midway killing 600+ bystanders.... oops wrong, new update, roof of Saddledome collapsed during a Beatles concerts ... 17289 feared dead, however reports that John Lennon has survived...

Official police report: a 14 year old has suffered whiplash on the bumper cars.

Twitter SUCKS.

Herald is reporting one potentially serious injury. Twitter is essentially a big game of telephone, so you do have to approach it with some caution.

"
CALGARY - Six people were hurt one with potentially serious injuries Friday evening when a ride on the Calgary Stampede midway broke and sent its passengers crashing to the ground before a throng of horrified fairgoers.
Witness Colton Reid said he saw a pod of six cars detach from an arm on the Scorpion ride, then flip over and crash to the ground from a height of about 10 metres.
Reid rushed to help and said he saw two people who were unconscious, including a male who was bleeding from the head as he lay trapped between the disabled car and the ride’s platform, and perhaps six other people who appeared to have broken bones."

I've always wondered how much the disinterested carnies actually pay attention...

Quote:
Reid said the damaged ride ran for perhaps a minute after the car detached and wasn’t shut down until a security guard began yelling at the attendant.

According to the Herald, this one didn't stop the ride until security started yelling at him.

I would wanna go jump off a bridge if I was the carnie responsible for the ride. The whole thing makes me feel sick. This is why me and my kids will stick to a swing set or merry go round.

There should be enough safety requirements from the Stampede Board in place such that this should never happen. If it happens on a medium speed ride, doesn't that mean the high speed rides are also potentially defective?

There should be zero margin for error. The proper thing to do would be to shut all of the midway rides down immediately.

Not only the sketchiness of the rides, but the carnies are working 10-15 hour shifts.

Lets have very fatigued/tired, disinterested carnies running potentially dangerous rides. YAY!

A merry go round? those things are more dangerous than any ride at the stampede.
