Default The Open Championship at St. Andrews

Just tuned in and watched John Daly finish up at -6 for the day (easily could of been -9 with 3 lip outs coming in) and that likely wont lead when all is said and done. The pros are carving up the old course as conditions are really really benign for a place that sees some pretty miserable weather most days.

Tiger playing well but not at the same pace as others at -3. Rory McIlroy is the guy i think will be right there when all is said and done, along with Justin Rose and I would really like to see Grahame McDowell play well this week as well.

Such a cool course as visually it looks like a huge cow pasture but the nuances and bunkers along with the weather make it such a test.

Nice to see Daly have a good round. I love watching him play but it is alway in the back of your mind wondering when he is going to blow up.

Tiger is picking it up now. Just two off the lead. Hopefully the later tee times hit some nasty wind so Hefty shoots an over par round.

McIlroy shoots a major tieing 63... and I hate to say it, but major chamionships should not be contested at St. Andrews - it's not a difficult enough setup for the modern player. Give me some Carnasty...

I'm not sure I agree with that. The players early in the morning got pretty lucky that there was absolutely no wind and the course was as soft as ever. It's not often you'll see those conditions on this course.

I think I would go nuts if, while golfing, there was someone playing bagpipes in the background.

And now they're suspending play because it's too windy. Wow.

Louis Oosthuizen (-12) has a 5-stroke lead now, over Mark Calcavecchia and Rory McIlroy.

Calcavecchia at 50 years old hasn't finished top-10 in a major since the PGA Championship in 2002.

Daly has dropped to -4, in a tie for 17th, and Tiger has dropped to -3, in a tie for 26th.

Daly hasn't finished top-10 in a major since he won this tournament 15 years ago.

Mickelson hit a 20-foot birdie on 18 to get to E for the tournament, right on the cut line currently.

course showed some bite today, so I think thursday was an anomoly.

I find it interesting to hear how many golfers describe winning the Open at St. Andrews as the pinnacle achievement in golf, even better than the Masters.

Calcavecchia startsthe day in 2nd spot...after 5 holes he is in 42nd spot.

Oosthuizen looking steady, but Stenson, Casey and Kaymer all made/making big moves.

Tiger is just stuck in neutral.

I feel like Tiger is real close. Like he said in his interview after his round, his ball striking is impressive right now. He's driving it well and giving himself a lot of good chances for birdies. It's his putting that is letting him down right now which has rarely been the case in his career.

It's too bad he wasn't able to get it together this week but he is close to putting it back together.

Go Louis... I play Best Ball Majors on ESPN.com and I had only 9.1 pts left to get my last golfer. Guess who was the only player that cost that much? Some dude from South Africa I have never heard of, but I got him anyways. I am now in a very good position to win $300

Well, this is quite the runaway lead for Oosthuizen.

he tore that apart. It was like he was in a completely seperate tournament than the rest of the field. That margin of victory was outstanding. Great to see a south african, with a black caddy, winning a major on Nelson Mandelas birthday. Great to see the warm embrace between the two at the end. His wife gave a good interview as well. Not standard fare but handled herself very well.
