So I was playing some NHL 95 on my newly set-up SNES and damn, what a game!
Hits that can send people over the boards, nets come of their moorings, two penalties to two different people at once. NHL 11 is pathetic compared to this!

And don't forget the best 1-2 D pairing in the game is Brain Leetch and Al Iafrate!
An X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter reboot would make my list 4.
I'd rather have the story driven Tie Fighter myself. In its time it was an amazing game, and the story line was really awesome.
The X-Wing game in its day was awesome, but it had the annoying mission fail you have to redo it instead of the branching system like Wing Commander (Bring back the franchise EA!!!)
Both games had an excellent final mission, in X-Wing it was the trench run on the first deathstar.
In Tie Fighter it was flying through the death star in the Millenium falcon.
Man I miss those games
and Wing Commander

For me im looking forward mostly to:
1) Rockband 3 (actually learning how to play rather then just bash buttons/my actual guitar)
2) NHL11 (stoked they are putting the CHL and players into it isntead of just Jarome Sedin)
3) CoD:black ops (could be sweet being in nam and such, and i think treyarch did a prettty good job on WaW people just bitched because they like newer weapons that arent bolt action haha)

Are you sure Tie Fighter ended like that? Wasn't that X-wing Alliance?

I bought Deadliest Warrior which was one of the games I was looking forward to last night off of Xbox Live. It's not spectacular but for $10 it was well worth it. It has I think every combatant from the first season except for the ones who used semi-automatic weapons. There's a menu for DLC so hopefully that means that the combatants from season 2 will be available to download.
I had an instant kill when as a Spartan I threw a spear at a Viking and hit him square in the face. Then the next fight I managed to cut both his head and arm off with one combo. I havent been able to do a one shot kill yet but I was killed by one shot when I believe a knight managed to counter a missed strike by me and got me in the neck.
3rded. It was an interactive movie where their idea of pumping up difficulty was making you face a ton of enemies wearing t-shirts who were bullet sponges. I would have liked the game as exploration only and without Drake being as strong and agile as Spider-Man.
I'll give you uncharted 1 wasn't the best game ever but that was their first outing on new hardware and a new ip, much like how assassin's creed laid the groundwork for a more polished sequel.
If any of you had actually played the sequel, maybe you'd understand the high review scores and why a 3rd game is worth looking forward to.

I'm pretty sure all of us who spoke ill of it in this thread have played the sequel. I passed Uncharted 2 twice because friends who sucked at playing games just wanted to watch the storyline. I should start telling them to just goto Youtube. The game had it's moments but was largely not something that held my interest and was rather more of a chore I had to go through because I wanted to know what would happen next. I just wanted to get each part over with. I was relieved there were no nazi zombies in the game and thought it was going to be way better than the original until I was hit with yetis and invincible purple people who ate grenades and AK-47 rounds for breakfast but died from being shot with a crossbow. High review scores mean little to me, the mainstream and lowest common denominator is too easily satisfied and has been coddled with an industry giving them the same things over and over again.
How is that franchise still not revived? And how is it that the first game in the series from 1990 is still the best with it's variable mission branching and bad endings? Man, I can still hear all that music in my head. You were the guy who told me to go read the novels right? I only have Freedom Flight unfortunately. I think I plagerized a junior high essay on it.

I just finished reading the last novel for the first time in a long time which is the outstanding False Colors.
I actually ordered the whole series of books from cheap from Chapters online and they're well worth the read.
Just to put it into perspective, Freedom Flight is probably the weakest of the group, with the best being either end run.
Just avoid the books based on the really crappy movie.

I dunno, sounds like you liked it...
And Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider both have supernatural elements. Uncharted is heavily influenced by both and I don't see the problem with adding stuff like that in a video game.

I saw plenty of things in the last year that have not been done before in action games. Guess it's all just Mario Bros-in-3D, right?
To name a few:
- In God of War 3, the idea of making the titans a level you can move, and having it all animated, was nothing short of amazing to play and watch. At times I was wishing I could stop playing and admire what they pulled off. It wasn't clunky or gimmicky in the least. It was used just the right amount to keep the special feeling it gave. They took scale to a whole new level in action games.
- The fact that you could play through a game as impressive looking as GoW3 without any load screens is also extremely impressive. This has been done before (Metroid Prime series for example), but not to this extent (Prime games are very closed in, in comparison).
- There are number of scenes in Uncharted 2 which are very impressive, but I have to say that the scene that caught my eye the most was when the Helicopter collapses the building you're in. I doubt you can say that's a common scene.
- Graphically the game pushed the bar even higher for games to match in this generation. Very impressive stuff.

Not to a PC gamer and most of these action gamers are using aping stuff that has been in hollywood movies over and over again. In the end, they are all basically the same genre and all the same action despite set with different kinds of choreography and background settings and camera work... They are all 3rd person games where you run around and shoot or fight or mash buttons or engage in quick time events, etc. They are all the same thing to me and boring and unenjoyable and not engaging or expanding my mind. The fact that your examples are actually both sequels is exactly the same kind of redundancy, despite differences in action choreography within that games that makes the industry tired and recycling the same things.
3rd person action games are to the 2000s what 2D generic platformers were to the 80s, mostly mind-numbing repeats of the same things over and over again but reproduced ad nauseum by everyone.
While I look upon most of these games with a sigh, I have to admit that I enjoyed one part in Uncharted where I was climbing a tower, had a grenade thrown at my feet and I jumped off the ledge as it exploded and the explosion threw me out and after falling for 2 stories, I landed on a guy and knocked him off a cliff all in one smooth motion that was not planned by the game to actually happen...but that was the only real time I smiled while playing that game That was because it was spontaneous and just happened as a byproduct of the physics engine of the game. If it's a quicktime event (one of the worst "innovations" in gaming) or lame scripted cutscene trying to be an action movie where it's totally artificial, I can't say I enjoy it. Those are the worst things about modern gaming trends for myself.

woo my favorite scene in the game. While most games would have that be a cutscene or a quick time event you controlled the whole time. I'd like more of this in Uncharted 3.
