It sort of makes sense but there is really nothing in the policy that explains that. What happens if the windshield is damaged due to a theft or auto accident?

Not to mention that a 5-10k claim is going to hurt your resale, regardless of the fact that it wasn't even in an accident.

How does that hurt resale?

I know a lot of people are going for the paintless dent repair (PDR), which is a more affordable option compared to the regular body work/part replacement/paint job but I hear that in the long run PDR may not be the best option. If you have a nice car which you want to keep for long PDR may cause the paint to peel off some time later, perhaps years later.
In my case since the vehicle is leased I would have to make sure the repair satisfies VW finance, otherwise I will get hit when the vehicle is returned.

I don't think that is correct. According to my policy, rock chips are not covered, but any damage from hail would be subject to a 250 deductible. Other policies may differ, but I know that is the case with mine.

Is that your opinion or is that fact. I've been researching that and I can't find anything to suggest it would decrease resale value as it was not a collision.

It probably will not show up on Carfax but if you are honest with the buyer and tell him that the car had dents repaired then the resale value is definitely going to decrease.

I think if I had a choice between a car that has been fixed and repainted and the exact same one that wasn't repainted for the same price I know which one I would buy. Unless I was getting a big discount on the repainted one, I'd definitely want the original painted car.

No aftermarket paint job is going to be factory quality.
If you had a choice between a car with zero claims history, and one that has had all the body panels replaced or refinished (likely with non-OEM parts), and a $10,000 claim that must be declared (at least in BC, I would guess its the same in AB), which one would you take?
It will hurt the resale, no question about it.

If it is done through insurance (which I'm assuming it would be if there is significant damage), it will show up on carfax.

Carproof. Won't necessarily show up on carfax.

In most cases, yes. But not always, although it is unlikely that an insurance job will result in a better paint job than from the factory. One thing I have noticed is the newer cars have vastly inferior paint vs. the older models. Probably due to environmental concerns but that's speculation on my part.

Exactly. In fact I went out of my way to find the car I wanted that had no body work or repainting at all. Now the car is thrashed, which is why I'm so pissed.
Speaking of OEM, I'm going to make sure if any panels are replaced, they are OEM. Even if they are used I'm fine with that.

I would think you would have a poretty hard time finding a used car in a city like Calgary with no body work that is say 4-5 years old.I would assume it could be done, but with difficulty as most people who drive higher end cars tend to care quite a bit about them and would have any type of damage repaired.

Cool video. But cheaper? Yes for a single ding, but what about 100+ of them?

Not that hard. My 1993 Camry was a U.S. car for about half its life, then was imported to Canada. No body work at all, except paint chip touch ups. It had a slight dent in the rocker panel, I pulled that out myself and it came out 99% straight.

I don't know for sure, I know there is about a dozen of shops in Calgary that perform PDR technique but they vary in price. I heard the cheapest one is about 20-30 bucks a dent if there is a huge number of dents. A single one runs for about 120 bucks. So if you have 100 dents it could cost you around 3000 bucks compared to $5500 (average claim for hail damaged car). But like I said previously there is a con, apparentely after this procedure the paint doesn't last as long as if it was repainted.

Interesting. So with my car, I'll be lucky to get it repaired. It might be worth 4 grand. (it's worth a lot more to me, I sold a much newer car before I bought this one, I don't like the new cars at all, Materials are too cheap, especially the interiors).
I never thought about the long term effects of dent repair though, but it makes sense.

At YYC they have a Cessna 340 and a Na###o. I believe they may have a King Air up at Olds/Didsbury plus some others.

BigTime. If I may ask, do you work at the airport? What company? I work for a company on the south end with Orange, Black and White Planes.
