Umm, my cousin got 100% average in AP highschool and is applying to pre med and she only studied a fraction of what this girl did.
Seriously, there a [GIANT BLEEPING HYPERBOLE] of Calgary highschool students who average 100%. This is just a news story on a girl who worked really hard to do that. There's nothing wrong with that.

Excelling at one subject isn't particularly noteworthy. This story is interesting because she excelled at them all.

When I was in highschool, I knew 3 people who had 100% averages. This is much harder also when you are in AP courses. I'm just extrapolating based on how many people I knew and the number of highschools in the city. This could be skewed due to affluence of area or the demographics of the school.

Yah, I laugh whenever someone tells me they or their kid is in pre-med or pre-law. Um, that means you're in general studies like the rest of the people not in business or engineering, no?

No, they are the university level exams you need to take in highschool that are harder than diplomas in order to apply to med school programs at U of T. I took my share of bio courses in University and I looked at her exams in grade 11 and I was shocked. I'm also pretty stupid, so who knows

Why is it so hard for people to believe it's possible to get 100% averages in highschool and many people do it? I am asian and my friend circles were mostly asian and very academically competitive to maintain near 100% averages. I was the stupid one who almost failed math and physics and had to retake them in summer school. I got 100% in social and english in Grade 12 though  How horrible. I should be disowned.

And you are trying to tell us your "extrapolation" of the number of 100% students in Calgary is accurate?

Good for her. Hopefully she has success in university. Sounds like she's a lot happier than most people here, so its hard to criticize.

I admit, my extrapolation is based on nothing but the number of people I've known over the years to average 100% in highschool. I admit it may be a bit of a hyperbole or an outlier experience.
I'd like to see some real stats. Go ahead and prove me wrong, I probably am.

Well its just the fact that to "average" 100 you have to get 110 for every 90 and that sort of thing. So basically you're suggesting that a hundreds of people get 100% in everything every year.

I agree, except for the last part.
It's easy, REALLY easy - just look in this thread. It might not be legitimate, but it's ridonkulously easy to criticize. Human nature perhaps?

I knew a lot of teachers who would give extra bonus marks on tests or extra projects you could do to make up an extra 5 or 10% in grade if you wanted to. So you could do 110% if you wanted to. They were also a lot less strict in terms of marks where if you were close to the top, you'd often be given the benefit of being averaged up for your effort. Highschool was much more forgiving than university, especially the closeknit atmosphere between teachers and students.

I guess high school must be easier in Alberta. I've never heard of anyone doing it in Ontario.
