Having said that, I am glad that we don't have hail storms like that over here in Connecticut.

I see your point, but I think that people are generally just sharing their experiences of the storm and the impact (or lack thereof) on them.
Speaking of the storm, I am always amazed at how localized these things are. At the Currie Barracks, the hail was marble-sized at most and no damage to be found, but a kilometre or two North in Killarney, there were leaves all over the road. Another poster (I forget who) was at MRU and got "pounded". Strange weather.

So if the weather modification science works we would have had hail the size or oranges if they didn't seed the cloud. Or the stuff could have been even harder when it hit.
Interesting that they had 3 planes seeding the Calgary cloud, to my knowledge they only base 2 at YYC. The third must have flown down from Red Deer, I believe they base at least 3 planes there.

These storms happen every year, many times causing an insane amount of damage. Last year they had record losses across canada. They prepare for these type of things, insurance companies have insurance for these types of losses. Everyone thinks insurance companies look for reasons to raise rates but this is a common occourrence. They raise rates on an individual basis meaning if you put through alot of claims they may raise your rates.
I didn't mean to single you out for hate towards insurance companies its people in general. Think of what would happen if you didn't have insurance.

I'm curious about this cloud-seeding thing.
It seems to be run by these guys: http://www.weathermodification.com/projects.php?id=6
but who's paying for it? Is this a municipal, provincial or federal program?

I'm not surprised they were up seeding, I would have been shocked if they weren't. Usually when they seed these types of storms it sucks all the energy out of the thing and it sometimes falls apart. So, if they were onto it in time and we still ended up with what we did then I don't think baseball sized hail would have been out of the question. And yes, I believe the seeding can make the hail more mushy.
They also keep planes in Olds or Didsbury - can't remember which.

I think Olds/Didsbury is one airport, I know that's where they base their doppler radar that they use for these flights.

Anyone heard back from their insurance agent yet or been advised as to how long the wait will be to get these vehicles repaired?

Same as me. They said the adjustor would call Thursday. I'm kind of hoping my car would be wrote off (I get a brand new car if it is), but given it's a 2009 Acura I doubt it will be.

The only panels I think on my car that haven't been completely painted or replaced are the rear doors and the front driver door.. every other panel has been off and fixed/replaced and painted lol.
And now the trunk, roof, and hood get it again, and I didn't even look closely to see if there's other parts.
I've never owned a car for 10 years before, so it's funny to me I guess.

Seems odd to base 3 at Red Deer given the population.
If the idea is to mitigate insurance claims you would think most would be based in Calgary - maybe Springbank has a few. I am surprised any are based at YYC.

We got a few holes in our siding from the storm. Anyone else had to deal with something like this? It's vinyl siding, and it's been up for 7 years, so it has faded over time. How in the heck can you match the siding if some of the panels are replaced? Or should I try to repair it myself with some clear caulking? Any insight is appreciated!
