Jays signed international free agent pitcher Ardonis Cardona
He's apparently the 3rd ranked international free agent player and they are also trying to sign the #1, and #2 players as well.

Jays sign SS Dickie Thon for 1.5 million. It wasn't expected that he would sign, but he did. It won't be officially announced till August 16th due to the fact that the highest ever 5th round pick signing was for only 680,000 and they didn't want it to affect everyone else's negotiations.
Also, the Jays signed 3B Gabriel Cenas who was the 2nd highest rated International free agent.

Thanks for the updated list, sounds like the toughest player to be signed (once again) is their 1st round selection. I suspect nothing be heard until very close to the dead-line.

I mentioned a while back that Romero didn't look as good this season and was jumped on.
Already getting hit all over by the BoSox.

Apparently we're all unaware that Romero's season is defined solely on his bad starts and none of his good ones.

Even after tonight's debacle, he still has a solid 3.71 ERA and his peripherals (KK/9, BB/9, KK/BB, etc.) are all still very good.

If you think he has been as strong this season compared to last, I can't really argue with you.
I know his stats are okay, but I'm watching the games and qualitatively, I don't think he looks that great.

I would his season was better this year than last year, obviously the last two outings have been really rough. I am curious if he is tired or if there is an injury.

Specific Observable Behaviors.

Is his change flattening out? Is his command gone? Is the struggling with runners on base? Poor pitch selection?

Command is not great, getting distracted by baserunners, more easily rattled...

I've noticed that he has to battle every inning, even when he's doing well.

I don't have a specific reason why, the Roger's analyst in me suggests that his "stuff" is lacking, I think/hope that he is working on a different out pitch or tinkering with his would-be patterns.

Here is an interview from PTS with Jays GM, Alex Anthopoulos. It is a good interview and Alex talks about Buck, Bautista, Wallace, Romero, and Snider. It is about the first 15 minutes or so.http://pmd.fan590.com/podcasts/pts/P...7-12,-6-pm.mp3 |

Jays traded SS Alex Gonzalez to the Braves for SS Yulen Escobar and Pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes.

I really liked Gonzalez thought he was a pretty good player for the Jays this year.

Very interesting trade, Jays unload Gonzalez and two prospects (Tim Collins the most notable). For Yunel Escobar who is a really good defensive Short Stop.

Gonzalez was on a one year deal, played really well for the Jays.

I would bet Scott Downs, John Buck will the next two players to be traded.

I'm not really sure why they traded him for those two. I'm sure they could've done better. Reyes, is basically a younger version of Tallet, and Escobar is basically John MacDonald with slightly more pop in his bat.

as a Braves fan I like the move.. Yunel is a great SS.. Is a good hitter , but has just struggles this year. He is one of the most pure athletic SS I have seen in a while . Good deal for you guys.. Here is hoping Gonzalez keeps hitting homers out of his mind.. for my Bravos ' sake!

Would disagree, read the following link about Escobar. This guy at the end of last season was thought to be a player with Star potential. He has lots of upside. While Gonzalez was a one year option for the Jays.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

"My take: this is certainly a win-now move for the Braves, who are confident Gonzalez will provide more over the next few months than Escobar would have.

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, managed the rare feat of acquiring three-plus years of a shortstop with star potential without giving up much." |
