Well actually, it's the opposite of what you needed to do with Magic Eyes as those were about convergance focusing but with these you do the trick that would end up getting you a negative image on a Magic Eye.
It's actually 10x easier than the "real" Magic Eye way.
i can do these 3D images no problem, but those stupid magic eye pictures always left me ending up feeling like this

if you overlay the two images and make an animated gif that just switches between the two quickly, it'lll create the 3d effect without crossing your eyes. much easier...

Man, I thought I was the only one! You've stumbled across something that has turned into a fairly big hobby for me... I've gotten to the point where I'm making my own 3D pictures with twinned/synced cameras. (Next step video? Maybe eventually.)
Keep everything in cross-eye JPG format so that I can quickly look at them on my monitor, but I also have a 3D-Ready TV for serious viewing, editting, and PC gaming. Gonna try to watch the World Cup finals in stereo 3D as well.
Some of mine (will add more... if people are interested this could become the ongoing stereo photo thread):
Eighth avenue from a stereoscopic view with buildings lining both sides of the street. Two horse-drawn buggies can be seen in the centre. A young male on a bicyle is located on the right hand side of the left hand buggy. Burns Block (located at Centre Street and 8th Avenue) can be seen on left hand side with a partial view of the sign for E.H. Crandell Fire & Life Insurance. Canadian Bank of Commerce and Phenix Insurance were also located in the Burns Block

Yeah after I stumbled upon this I tried taking a few myself... simply by taking stills with my point and click by using the viewfinder with my right, then left eye.
The only thing is I cant really take pictures of people or living things because they move... but it did work! I was pleased. I would post them but they are really boring and I am at work.
