The stuff is bad news...and it is prevalent in a lot of places, but is more socially "accepted" than other drugs.

Johnny Jolly is likely to lose his career over this. Big hit for the Packers to endure.

The New York Jets' contract logjam cleared up some Wednesday, when the team reached agreement on a colossal six-year, $60 million contract extension with offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, according to league sources.

The guaranteed money is $34.8 million, a new record for an offensive lineman, surpassing the $30 million in guaranteed money that the Miami Dolphins gave No. 1 overall pick Jake Long.

This is true, I've been surprised at the lack of concern by a portion of the African-American posters on my Saints board.

Quite a few are pissed that this is getting traction while the Chris Simms arrest gets hardly any. In fact, not even a mention here on CP. Personally, I think that's more name recognition, draft status than Black vs. White or anything.

I am no lawyer but it seems pretty weak to charge a guy with possession of a substance that isnt banned in the US when it was an open container in a vehicle with two other occupants.

What did Simms get arrested for? Being wildly over rated and a crappy QB?

Poessesion of any prescription drug without having a prescription for it is illegal....anywhere.

Commonwealth's Attorney Harvey L. Bryant told The Associated Press Wednesday night in a telephone interview that Vick was not involved in the shooting and that he left the nightclub "in the 3- to 5-minute range" before it occurred.

Bryant would not go into detail about the confrontation, but said there was no evidence the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback was involved in "anything that would amount to aggressive or assaultive conduct."

"He's an athlete and an entertainer, but he's also a human being, and things that would tick you and I off would tick him off," Bryant said. "But he extricated himself from those things and left with the help and encouragement of some of his friends and supporters."

Police have said Vick was not the shooter. Bryant said the investigation also shows that Vick "was not aware of whether or not anyone was going to be shot, was threatened to be shot or anything to do with any of that business."

He wasn't involved in the shooting, but he was throwing a major party and people he wasn't supposed to have any contact with were there. So while he may be cleared of any criminal action in this instance, I think he is still in hot water with the NFL.

Except that the people who weren't supposed to be there showed up uninvited. Don't know how he can be blamed for that. I agree it's bad optics, but I really don't think he's done anything wrong this time.

He put himself in a position he shouldn't have been in. He shouldn't have thrown a big birthday, it shouldn't have been open to the public. It is another example of poor judgement from him.

Even Tony Dungy says that:

It was just not very good judgment and putting himself in a position where you're inviting the public to pay money and come to a birthday party, and you've got people there that you don't know who they are. You've got people that may be carrying weapons, people that are going to drink alcohol. And it's late at night. It's a recipe for failure.

Vick didn't do anything legally wrong. But if his agreements with the Commissioner's office were that he wouldn't do anything to put himself or the NFL in any more controversial situations then he has failed in that regard.
