Uruguay will face The Netherlands without Suarez, that will make it extra tough for them.

Wow sounds like I missed the beauty. With how hard WC highlights are to find on the sports networks, anyone mind detailing the miss by Ghana around the end? Sounds like it looked like an absolute sure thing

Shame for Ghana but you just knew that Uruguay was going to win the shootout.

Great match .

the ball was going in to the net, Suarez kept it out with a clear handball

on the penalty Ghana hit the crossbar

Easy to armchair it but it looked to me like Suarez could have headed that ball, he handled it almost right in front of his face.

Crazy entertaining finish anyway. So 3 of the 4 top seeds France, England and Brazil all go out of the upper half of the bracket and we have a Uruguay-Netherlands semi, I wonder if anyone in the world called this.

With how fast it was coming in, I think he just reacted in the hopes of getting a body part on it. Especially for being the third shot in ten seconds and the goalie out of the picture after the first shot.

For sure and slow mo makes a millisecond decision look like an eternity. He's probably feeling pretty good about it tonight.

Yup any player would have done that. If not his entire country would have called him stupid.

If FIFA doesn't think that's fair then they need to change the rule to something else. FIFA's not having a good tournament are they?

Guess what, idiot, the refs also made a bad call in your game that helped your team. Stay classy, Diego.

From a non-soccer fan, that game was incredible. Watching with nothing else to do on a Friday afternoon, sure glad I did.

If he heads it there's absolutely no way he gets it clean, it likely goes off his head and in.

I agree with the earlier poster, if a defender intentionally prevents a ball from going into the net with his hands it should be an automatic goal. There's absolutely no consequences for that play otherwise.

I'm a bit torn on this. A penalty and a red card is a huge consequence.
If you allow an automatic goal do you still give a player a red card? What would you do in the Harry Kewell situation in the first half?

The fact that it happened in the 120th minute made this a very unique situation.

If it were me I would do anything short of dropping a nuclear bomb to stop that goal.

He did the right thing.
