Default NC man...struck by lightning and mauled by a bear.

Quote:
Ever since he was struck by lightning in 2006, Oliver says, he's had trouble sleeping
Quote:
On restless nights, he tends to putter about his farm, checking on his chickens, working on his tractors and, as he was in the wee hours of June 3, fixing up his Chevy Malibu.

About 2 a.m., he heard a distant rustling on his 17-acre spread in an unincorporated sliver of Wake County between Cary and Raleigh.

As he turned to investigate, he was dealt a heavy blow. "I heard this strange huffing," Oliver said. "And the next thing I know I had been run over and stepped on by a bear."

So these events happened four years apart? That is less exciting than if they had happened together.

Interestingly, I have a friend who in the span of about a year had lightning strike about a few metres away from him then also narrowly avoided being mauled by a grizzly bear (another friend of mine was not so lucky with the bear and was mauled--but survived with some injuries--here is the CP thread on that attack http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?p=161988). In the intervening period, my friend was also charged by a bull moose and had to dive into a lake to get out of the way. So, would you say he is lucky or unlucky? This all happened in Alberta and he lives in Calgary (and he and his family are long-time Flames fans).

I remember hearing about a plane crash in the Rockies, where the guys crawled out of the flaming wreckage... and were immediately chased up a tree by a bear.

Mrs. Cowperson walked away without a scratch after her car was it and destroyed by a drunk driver . . . . . and then she was charged by a bull moose in our yard a few years later. A growling, head-swaying bull suddenly appeared from behind a hillock and swept by her, myself and our dogs when we were out in the middle of a pasture without cover for a mile in any direction . . . . also an underwear-soiling moment.

You live long enough, stuff happens.

I know I'll go to hell but when I read the thread title I couldn't stop laughing. I read "man struck by lightning" then I looked back "and mauled by bear". ahahaha

Best thing ever. I feel bad for the guy but it would have been better if they were the same day.
