Default My Blackberry can't find satellites

I am looking for some help/advice from the blackberry experts out there.

I bought a Blackberry bold a few months ago and for the most part I like it. Everything was working fine on it until I recently tried using the GPS on it and it isn't working anymore.

I mainly use the GPS feature when I am golfing as I have downloaded green finder which acts as a range finder on the course. I used it once with no problems but all of a sudden now whenever I try using it all I get is the message "searching for satellites" and it won't connect or find them.

Same thing when I go to the map feature and try to use anything to do with GPS. It says searching for satellites and nothing happens. It just won't connect anymore. Hopefully I am missing something very simple.

Any ideas for me?

Thanks!

Happened to me once before, too.

Take your battery out, wait 15 seconds, put the battery back in, power up. Should work again.

I thought it was bizarre that I would have to go to such lengths to reboot the phone, but it worked.

Thanks tried that but didn't seem to work. I'll give it another go.

Being inside will also be a big hinderance. You'll want to be outside for best results.

Try going to Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS and make sure that the GPS Location Services is turned on?

You can try to refresh the GPS from there too.

How long have you waited while it searches for sats? If you haven’t used the GPS system in a while, it needs to refresh the data on the current satellite constellation configuration, which it downloads slowly from the satellites themselves. It could take up to 5 minutes or more, in my experience, depending on what it is able to find based on its outdated info.

Maybe the program you loaded a)didn't take you to the screen where you change permissions to allow it to use GPS b)somehow reset your gps settings overall.

My BB Maps took forever to find satellites, but downloaded Google Maps and it connects within seconds. Thus, haven't used BB maps for a while, but I think sometimes having Google connect proplerly to the GPS kicks BB Maps to connect too.

If you're having trouble with Google Maps, it could be similar to what I was experiencing.

Google maps for me was working great, and all of a sudden didn't. I didn't put the two together, but I had just updated Google Mobile... As a result, Google Maps didn't work until I accepted the terms for Google Mobile, and then everything started to work great.

Food for thought...

Also.. something to consider:

Go into the Options > Status menu

Type test

Use the Blackberry button to open the menu and choose 'Start'.

On there, you should see a GPS option. Check it and choose Run.
