Paraguay wins 5-3!
I think the Japanese keeper went too early every time! Gave himself away.

Well done Paraguay! Penalties are nerve wracking.
Ok, I am proposing a Uruguay vs. Paraguay World Cup Final in order to determine once and for all which nation is 'Guay-est.'
Whos with me?

Japanese guy walked by my desk shaking his head.
#3? I knew when #3 walked up to take a kick we were in trouble.
High numbers should take penalties!
LOL

It's like the Hawks Vs. Calgary. Chicago is bigger, stronger and more talented, thus, they dominate. Chile is talented but still young (5 of their starters were at the under 20 World Championship in Toronto 3 years ago) and they are small. Sadly, Brazil is the total package and has more quality.
How about that South American domination? 4 of the 5 are in to the final 8 and it would have been 5 if Chile didn't matchup against Brazil. I'm confident Chile could have won an elimination game against a team like the US, Ghana, Japan, Slovakia or South Korea.

Interesting, thus far every team that won their group has progressed with the sole exception of the USA and potentially Spain should Portugal pull off the upset (which they wont!!).
That said, for some of the major teams perhaps coming in second in their group would have been better. For instance, had Germany come in second in their group they'd have had the road of:
USA - Uruguay - Holland/Brazil
rather than:
England - Argentina - Spain/Paraguay
While playing USA/England is basically a lateral move at best I'm sure the Germans would rather not play Argentina and vice versa.
And the South Americans are kicking serious ass. Theres likely going to be at least 1 in the final. Hell, FIFA could give MORE spots to SA and fewer to CONCACAF.

Locke, I forgot about our bet..... I'm heading out the door to watch the game, so I won't see your reply, but how about 1 week of a sig/avatar of our choosing??
Nothing out of this world, like mine will probably be a Portugal flag and a Ronaldo pic or something.
Deal??

what a snorefest
GLad i didn ot have time to watch that game, figured it would be one of those. Paraguay's knockout games are always so long(France 98). PVR'd up to penalty kicks and I guess will get another long game in the quarterfinals.

I doubt it, Paraguay take a different approach to each game, but I dont think you can blame Paraguay for this being a slow game, the Japanese basically stuffed their 18 yard box the whole game as is demonstrated by the 60/40 Paraguayan possession.
