Good soccernet article by Uli Hesse:
"Germany low on budget big on ideas"
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-c...901&ver=global
"I'm probably part of a very small minority in my own country when I say that the 38th minute was crucial, but I have been clamouring for instant video replays for so long (see "Men and Machines, 2005") that I'm positively enraged at still having to live with such an appalling refereeing decision in an important World Cup game."
"I, for one, am not sure our young players would have recovered so easily from conceding two goals in less than two minutes at a point in the game when they should have been up by three or even four. Not to mention that England might have finally broken out of that strange stupor which has held them captive ever since the World Cup began."
"But enough of that. I should probably take a similar stance to former Scotland international-turned BBC pundit Alan Hansen, who said: "England were hammered. The bottom line is they are lucky it was only four.""

A reception where Civic leaders will draft an Accord declaring it Japanese soccer day, they will shout it from the Ridgelines!

Well since Korea (both of them) went home I would guess that is true nonetheless.

Anyone ever see a match where no injury time got added at the end of either half?
I'd love to see one - the whistle blows at 45 or 90 minutes, everyone looks at the ref, and he says, "No, we're good."

I've only seen it in the first half. It's impossible in the 2nd half unless there are no substitutions at all.
1 sub = 30 seconds added.
But sometimes when it's a blowout the ref will end the game early.

Well, I'm back, what a day yesterday!! Deutschland uber alles!!
I know, I know, 2-2 at half, controversial goal, shame on FIFA, so on and so forth, but it happens. I'm of the opinion that even though England may have played differently having been level, the Germans tore that fragile defence apart over and over and over and would just have found other ways of doing it.
And Rooney was a waste of a roster spot. After his World Cup performance hes more like the fat bearded trailer trash than the guy getting knighted by the queen.
As for Capello, I dont know, at some point you've got to blame the players, if you want to talk about coach killers look no further than John Terry and potentially Fatty Frank. For all the big name superstars only Stevie actually showed up and looked like he cared. Although that defence was really weak.
Ha, I keep thinking about the Centre Back fiasco and thinking to myself 'Matthew Upson? Upson?' Well, he was better than John Terry.
Onwards and upwards, sympathies to the English supporters, but the Germans march on against Argentina, now that'll be a stiff test and a great game I'm sure.

Kuyt to Schneider and Slovakia are dead in the water. 2-0 Holland.

I do blame Capello alot.
1. Terry has to be captain or be off the team. It's too awkward to have him just there. If you think the act of banging another guy's wife is a big enough offense then he should be off the team, otherwise nothing should have changed.
2. Lampard, Gerrard and Barry cannot play together in midfield. The team has no width. It should be Joe Cole on the left and Lennon on the right.
Only way those three can play together is if Gerrard goes forward, but why do that if you have forwards. I would have prefered Ashley Young as a possible wide option ahead of the useless SWP.
3. Forwards.. are there no other forwards then frickin Emile Heskey? Rooney cannot be your one and only hope because if he goes cold or gets marked out of the game, you're hooped. You need another goal scoring option. Defoe is fine, Crouch is a waste. Bent and Agbonlahor should have been there.

What an awful call. Thats not a penalty.
The Dutch win anyways. Who makes that call in the 93rd minute?

What an odd decision...give a penalty (not deserved) and then end the game.
Ah well, over all a strong game, liked the creativity that Robben can bring up front, could have had a few more but then Slovakia could have too.
Probably Brazil next. Holland better be ready to bring their top game, which I don't think they have played at yet.

You know, this team would have been just fine without John Terry, he was awful all tournament and clearly he was bitter about not being Captain when he tried to lead a coup against Capello.
No width, no quality crosses either, James Milner hasnt met a defender yet that he cant hit with an attempted cross.
You know, Agbonlahor's pace might have caused problems for defenders, Rooney just stood around looking disinterested.
