When you ship 600,000+ devices in one day, there are bound to be issues.

I don't think that concerns people as much as Jobs saying 'hold it the right way.'

He SHOULD have said, 'really, well we will look into that and try to fix it.'

Updated to iOS 4 on my 3G the other day (so limited in features), but some nice improvements and no issues.

But LOL @ Steve's response to the catastrophic fail of the iPhone 4 left hand signal issue: Just avoid holding it that way.

Hopefully it gets fixed properly (or they offer the $30 bumper case thing for free). Thinking about upgrading to a 4 sometime this year depending on what the Android offerings are like.

Yeah, while I'm all in favour of CEOs answering emails from regular people... I don't think he should be allowed to. I mean, he says the same kind of things I would probably be inclined to say... but I'm not exactly a world-class spokesman of my own accord either.

Settings->General->About->Version:

My bet is that you're running something lower than 3.1.2.

iTunes doesn't know what firmware you have running on any of your devices, so it will let you buy something even if your device can't support it.

The app you bought requires OS 3.1.2 or higher. Since I always update to the latest version, I never really pay attention to the version requirements.

On that same screen where you got the version number, what does it say for the Model?

Yep. At least your firmware is. That firmware doesn't even support the app store I don't think.

LOL.. n00b.

Some reviews of the camera and video which look pretty interesting...

One thing that really stands out to me is the audio difference. There's a very clear difference in audio recording alongside the video, and I'm not sure which I like the best. The Droid one is very striking and clear, while the iPhone one is more subdued and muffled. Interesting, for sure.

I can't update to iOS4.

itunes keeps telling me that there was an error trying to update the iphone and network connectivity could not be established.

All the itunes diagnostics check out, all cables all connected, everything is hooked up and online and connected to wifi, etc.

Do I need to open some ports or something? What's up?

I thought he did a great job with that late night exchange with some editor from Gawker who was whining about porn or something. I like the guy, he is an amazing manager, regardless of the RDF. I would probably hate working for him though.

Not the device, just the firmware. You can update to OS 3.1.2 for free. Just plug into iTunes and click "Check for Updates."

Edit: Whoops. OS 4 is free, OS 3 is $4.95.

(OS 3 is as high as you can go on a 1st Gen iPod Touch.)

I'm sure you do, but do you have iTunes 9.2 latest version (assuming Windows).

I edited my other post, but not quick enough. It will cost you $4.95 to update to OS 3.1

Latest iTunes: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
Latest OS your iPod can run: https://buy.itunes.apple.com/WebObje...acyLandingPage (this opens in iTunes, so update iTunes first)

Here's the support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2052

Yep, have 9.2 After downloading the software itself, it tries to connect to Apple again for something else (verification?) and this is where it fails.

Weird, man. What's the exact error message? Apple errors are usually pretty legible.

Oh... yeah, there's a verification stage. Are you running some kind of firewall thing that is blocking it?

Even recently, how about all those machines with defective hard drives that literally detached their heads while in use. Video chips frying. Video chips frying again! Macbook Air rev1’s overheating looking at a YouTube vid. Magsafe connectors fraying and sparking. Yellow tint on top of the line iMac screens. Multiple video card issues on ATI equipped iMac’s. etc, etc, etc

The list is as endless for Apple as any other manufacturer out there. The only difference in my experience has been that Apple has better customer support to help when these kinds of issues do occur. Not many companies will identify these mistakes and engineering issues, and continue to repair and replace well outside their regular warranty period. Whether its an admission of guilt or not, I don’t know, but its definitely good for the consumer.
I have had the above things. I will be waiting on the new iPhone.
