The CGI in this show for the backgrounds is terrible. The blood is bad, but I can get used to it, but the background CGI is astonishingly bad. The show must have a budget of like $14.

Just watched the bloodbath that was the season finale. That was very cool.
Unfortunate news though. Andy Whitfield who plays Spartacus has been recently diagnosed with Hodgkins and Season 2 has been put on the shelf indefinitely. There's talk of doing a prequel series, with another actor, but the story will not continue anytime soon. A quick google search will find you the story.
Great show. Very entertaining. Loved them all to be honest and this kind of show has never been my kind of thing. But I was hooked when I saw Lucretia have a conversation with her husband while getting diddled by her slave. Awesome.
The cutting of the horse dong was a bit much.
Oh, and Illythia is very hot. And when she smashed that chicks face....oh man.
There's just so many memories of the show that will be hard to forget. It was that over the top. Fantastic.

Yes and no. The sets burning in a fire and being to expensive to replace is more accurate.

As well Rome was backed by three countries, USA, Britain, and Italy. Italy backed out after the first year due to the high cost to produce the show
"Between March 2004 and May 2005 Rome was filmed in co-production with RAI in the Italian countryside on Cinecittà studios' six sound stages in Rome. A collection of massive sets in Cinecittà studios' back lots comprised an elaborate "period reconstruction" of sections of ancient Rome. [7] It was a huge undertaking, with an international crew of 350, and more than 50 local Italian interns..."
"HBO Chairman Chris Albrecht announced in a July 2006 news conference that season two of Rome would be its last, citing the fact that the series (called "notoriously expensive" by Broadcasting & Cable) had been developed under a two-year contract with the BBC that would have been difficult for the BBC to extend due to the series' cost. [24][25] Of the storyline, co-creator Heller said:
"I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end. The second was going to end with the death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the messiah in Palestine. But because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end. There's certainly more than enough history to go around." "

Being that the set was going to change to Egypt for the 3rd season, the burning down of Rome's set was not a huge blow.

Starz announced on May 11, 2010 that it is developing a six-episode prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The prequel will feature new and returning stars, headlining the roles of John Hannah as Batiatus, and Lucy Lawless as Lucretia. Star Andy Whitfield will also briefly appear. Production begins in New Zealand in the summer of 2010 and the prequel will air beginning January 2011.

After a long hiatus of watching the show I caught the last 5 episodes.
What a season finale. That was about as good as a season finale gets (Dexter's season 4 was brilliant as well). The epic bloodbath of Spartacus and the rest of the guys killing everyone, Varo's wife slaughtering the child, Krixus stabbing Lucretia in the womb, OH BABY!
Edit: Wow, just reading up on Andy Whitfield and it seems he has finished his cancer treatments and is now cancer free! HAZAA!! Clean bill of health.
From further reading it appears he'll be back on set in October, but they are still presuming with the prequel, so Season 2 will have a super late 2011 start I'd imagine.

I don't think Lucretia is dead. The last shot of her shows that she is still alive. Also if her womb is the only thing stabbed then it can be debated that nothing life threatening happened to her, just her baby. The next season she will be one of the main antagonists driven by the death of her husband, child and Krixus stabbing her and then leaving her. It will be a bloody mess next year!
Glad to see Andy is healthy.

ya I agree with that, plus she is the biggest 'name" on the show
I think she will still be around
very excited for the 2nd season (and the prequel), the last 10 episodes of the season were all outstanding
